
PHOENIX (AP) — Christian Walker hit a 459-foot solo homer and added an RBI double, Zac Hallen pitched seven quality innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Miami Marlins 5-2 on Monday night.
Walker opened the scoring in the fourth inning with a double to left field off starter Braxton Garrett and a score by Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rivera. Arizona’s fourth hitter followed up with a majestic home run in the sixth that landed on the second deck to give the D-backs a 2-1 lead.
It was Walker’s ninth home run of the season after hitting a career-high 36 in 2022.
Arizona scored twice more in the sixth on RBI singles by Gabriel Moreno and Ketel Marte to go up 4-1. Moreno had three hits, including a double.
That was more than enough for Gallen (5-1), who pitched flawlessly and allowed just one run on five hits, striking out seven.
For the Marlins, Cubans Jorge Soler 3-1, Yuli Gurriel 4-1. The Venezuelan Luis Arráez from 4-1. The Dominicans Bryan de la Cruz 4-1 with a run scored, Jean Segura 3-0, Jesús Sánchez 3-2 with an RBI.
For the Diamondbacks, the Dominican Ketel Marte 5-1 with an RBI. Boricua Emmanuel Rivera 5-2 with two runs scored.
