Unexpected! These 5 Former Chelsea Players Are Still Actively Playing
They have won the Premier League title and also the Champions League.
The success achieved by Chelsea certainly cannot be separated from the contribution of its players. So far, many great players have been the backbone of the Blues over the years.
However, many players from Chelsea’s glorious generation have hung up their boots. Call it and Frank Lampard, John Terry to Petr Cech.
However, many do not realize that some former Chelsea players are still actively playing. Now they are enjoying the end of his career with small clubs.
Here are five former Chelsea players who are still actively playing.
Scott Sinclair
Scott Sinclair arrived at Chelsea from Bristol City in 2005. However, he has only made five Premier League appearances for the Blues in six different seasons.
After being loaned out to several clubs, Sinclair moved permanently to Swansea City in 2010. He then continued his career with Manchester City and Aston Villa.
After winning three Scottish titles in a row with Glasgow Celtic, Sinclair returned to England with Preston North End in January 2020. The 32-year-old is still there.
Marko Marin
Marko Marin earned the nickname ‘Messi from Germany’ while playing at Werder Bremen. This is what made Marin recruited by Chelsea in 2012.
However, Marin did not get the confidence to play regularly at Stamford Bridge. He was often loaned out to several clubs such as Sevilla, Fiorentina, Anderlecht and Trabzonspor.
Marin also played at Olympiacos, Red Star Belgrade and Al-Ahli after Chelsea. Currently, Marin defends the Hungarian club, Ferencvaros
Philip Luis
After helping Atletico Madrid to La Liga champions, Filipe Luis moved to Chelsea in 2014. However, the Brazilian was not Jose Mourinho’s first choice.
Luis has only appeared 15 times in the Premier League competition. He eventually parted ways with Chelsea and returned to Atletico Madrid the following season.
After four seasons with Los Rojiblancos, Luis returned to Brazil to strengthen Flamengo. At the age of 36, Luis is still a mainstay in Flamengo’s back line.
Loic Remy
Loic Remy showed slick performances while on loan at Newcastle United in the 2013/2014 season. Chelsea finally signed the player in the 2014 summer transfer market.
Remy was never trusted to play regularly during his two seasons at Stamford Bridge. The French striker was unable to compete with Diego Costa on the front lines of Chelsea.
After leaving Stamford Bridge, Remy spent time in Spain and France. Now, Remy plays for Turkish club Caykur Rizespor.
John Obi Mikel
John Obi Mikel was once a mainstay for Chelsea. The Nigerian player won 11 trophies during 11 years living at Stamford Bridge.
After playing for Chelsea, Obi Mikel moved to China with Tianjin Jinmen Tiger in January 2017. He also had time to strengthen Middlesbrough, Trabzonspor, and Stoke City.
Now Obi Mikel still hasn’t hung up his boots. The 34-year-old midfielder has now played for Kuwait SC since July 2021.
