Doctor Strange 2 , or officially titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is an upcoming MCU show that is expected to explore more about the Marvel Multiverse. The movie, directed by Sam Raimi, will reportedly feature many cameos, including the appearance of Marvel characters from the old franchise, X-Men and Fantastic Four. It is hoped that their appearance will complement the Illuminati team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe version.
After accidentally opening a multiverse portal in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is likely to face even more dangerous multiverse problems in his second solo movie. And based on what was seen in the Doctor Strange 2 trailer , later he will ask for help from Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) as well as other superheroes who know the multiverse, such as America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez). And at some point in the movie, Strange is also confirmed to meet the guardians of the multiverse, the Illuminati.
In March, the movie magazine Empire confirmed that the Illuminati secret society would appear in Doctor Strange 2. And since the MCU version of the Illuminati is likely to be the Guardians of the Multiverse , it’s possible that the members will also be drawn from the variants that are most familiar with the multiverse. If that’s the criteria, it’s not impossible that the evil variant of Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic from the Fantastic Four will become part of the Illuminati MCU. In Marvel Comics, the evil variant of Mister Fantastic known as ‘The Maker’ is indeed proven to be very familiar with the Marvel Multiverse.
The Maker was originally a variant of Mister Fantastic which first appeared in the comic Ultimate Fantastic Four #1 (2004). After experiencing countless tragedies, including seeing the person he really likes marry someone else, Mister Fantastic eventually turns into a multiverse supervillain named The Maker who wants to find the ideal universe for him. The same premise may be his motivation as well in Doctor Strange 2, where he will become one of the important members of the Illuminati while searching for the universe that he thinks is the most ideal for him to live in.
Previously, it was confirmed that the character Charles Xavier aka Professor X in the Illuminati MCU would be revived by Patrick Stewart, who previously starred in the X-Men franchise. That means, there is also the possibility that Mister Fantastic, which we theorize as The Maker this time, will again be played by actor Ioan Gruffudd, who previously starred in the Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) movies. The return of Gruffudd seems to be able to bring the evil characters from The Maker to life very well.
With his motivation to find the ideal universe to master, The Maker’s presence in the MCU may not immediately become a multiverse supervillain, but rather as a figure who will get in the way of Doctor Strange at some point. His appearance in Doctor Strange 2 may initially be shown as the figure of Mister Fantastic Lama, then towards the end of the movie, he will be seen wearing his trademark The Maker mask, as a sign that he is ready to become the next supervillain in various upcoming MCU projects.
That’s the discussion about the potential appearance of an evil variant of Mister Fantastic aka The Maker in the upcoming Doctor Strange 2 movie. The presence of The Maker can be a fun ‘gimmick’ for fans, because only then, Marvel can present a formidable supervillain while keeping old actors like Gruffudd. What do you think, geeks? The truth will soon be revealed, when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premieres on May 5, 2022 tomorrow.
