Director Matt Reeves shares some dialogue from deleted scenes involving the Joker by shedding more light on his past with Dark Knight Robert Pattinson. In its second week of release, ‘The Batman’ continues to liven up the conversation around his radical take on the iconic DC character.

The film focuses on a more tormented version of Bruce Wayne as he faces his greatest challenge, the equally quirky Riddler (Paul Dano), who has targeted the biggest public figure in Gotham City and doesn’t forget to leave puzzles beyond his imagination.

Although Riddler was the main villain in ‘The Batman’, Reeves also added some other big villains. A pre – Penguin Oswald Cobblepot (Colin Farrell) who plays a key role in the film, and the scene at the very end of Batman ‘s cruelest villain is The Joker .

Barry Keoghan plays the Joker in this film, and he was already in Arkham by the time ‘The Batman’ started. While unknown and obsessed with villain fans, he has fallen out with Batman, as the deleted footage reveals.

Since ‘The Batman’ was released, Reeves has covered many aspects of the film, including the fact that Keoghan shot additional scenes as the Joker . Reeves was sure it would be released eventually, but in truth, he instead offered some details to CinemaBlend (via The Direct ). He has revealed some dialogue and said a lot about the Joker ‘s past with Batman . Reeves said:

“Well, you know, the invisible prisoner was one of the characters he was going to face in ‘Year 1’, and that’s how he ended up there. So they have a relationship. One line from the missing scene is, the invisible prisoner saying to him ‘It’s almost our anniversary , isn’t it?’ And we realize that they have a relationship that was before that character, who the character was, before that character became that character. He hasn’t declared himself the character yet, but they have a relationship that starts very, very early, and…they relate to each other in very specific ways.”

For Batman and Joker to be intertwined in this way early on is a great choice when considering the complex bond that has existed in several adaptations. Matt Reeves is very careful when discussing whether the Joker will be the villain again in ‘The Batman 2’, a deeper scenario between the two characters was hinted at but never explored.

Reeves had something in mind for them, it just wasn’t clear what it was. However, now that it’s been confirmed that Batman Pattinson knows the Joker, there’s bound to be plenty of fan theories about what the conflict in their ‘Year One’ might be.

‘The Batman’ creates a new version of Gotham that will already be made in various spin-offs. Although the Gotham PD series is about to be made, there is a project on Arkham in the works, and the Penguin series starring Farrell has just been serialized. That doesn’t even include a likely sequel.

As evidenced by the removal of scenes involving the Joker and Bruce Wayne, Reeves has seriously thought about the world of Batman and its history, and watching it unfold one by one through its various sequels will be very, very exciting.
