Synopsis & Review of The Starry Love, Chinese drama love and sacrifice of twin daughters that managed to attract the attention of many fans
Another Chinese drama that has managed to attract the attention of many fans, especially if it’s not The Starry Love.
Directed by Chu Yui Bun, this drama adapts the story from the novel Xing Luo Ning Cheng Tang by Yi Du Jun Hua. But what got the audience excited was that this drama was the third installment in “The Honey Trilogy” after Ashes of Love (2018) and Skate Into Love (2020).
This xianxia genre drama will star Chen Xing Xu, Landy Li, Luke Chen and He Xuan Lin as the main characters. Even though it has many conflicts, the plot is packaged in a romantic and witty love story.
Apart from chemistry and acting, this drama directed by Chu Yui Bun is complemented by beautiful costumes and cinematography, as well as simple but satisfying visual effects.
For those of you who are curious about the story of love and sacrifice from the twin flower reincarnations of Qing Kui and Ye Tan, don’t forget to read the following synopsis and drama reviews of The Starry Love!
At the beginning of the creation of the world, beings from the four realms were created from pure energy and dirty energy. However, there is an evil force that intends to destroy the world.
Thankfully the God Tribe of the Sky Realm managed to seal that power in the Land of Collapse. But there was one thing they didn’t realize, the Purple Sacred Tree that grew in the vein of the East Hill Land had its roots extending to the ocean.
This tree gave birth to a twin flower that could absorb water and mud and awaken the Land of Ruin.
In order to save the four realms, all the tribes work together to destroy the East Hill and eradicate the twin flower. But who would have thought, if the twin flower spiritual bodies did not perish but were reincarnated into a pair of beautiful princesses.
A Queen of the Human Tribe gave birth to a pair of beautiful daughters named Li Guang Qing Kui (He Xuan Lin) and Li Guang Ye Tan (Landy Li). Their birth gives happiness as well as anxiety.
Princess Qing Kui who was born with an auspicious sign, was so loved. On the other hand, Princess Ye Tan was born with a sign of bad luck, causing everyone to ask the King to kill his own daughter.
Unable to bear to kill his own child, the King decided that Princess Ye Tan would live in seclusion and strict protection.
18 years have passed, Princess Qing Kui has transformed into a graceful, intelligent, and virtuous woman. Even the King had betrothed her to the Crown Prince of the Sky Realm who was known as the hero of the world.
Meanwhile Princess Ye Tan grew up to be a rebellious woman, a bringer of bad luck, and hated by many people. The king also decided to match his daughter with the Crown Prince from Alan Chengyuan who was filled with bad people.
However, due to an evil conspiracy, Princess Qing Kui and Princess Ye Tan ended up in the wrong palanquin and had to marry different people.
Princess Ye Tan instead becomes a wife candidate for the cold and very stiff god Shao Dian You Qin (Chen Xing Xu). Meanwhile Princess Qing Qui will be married to one of the three sons of King Li (Russell Tang) who will later be appointed Crown Prince.
Like it or not, both Ye Tan and Qing Kui had to switch identities and change their attitudes so as not to be suspected by the two realms. The reason was to keep them and the Human Tribe safe from destruction.
Despite the difficulties, they slowly began to enjoy each other’s lives. Ye Tan, who had always been estranged, could finally feel the warmth of family and affection in the Sky Realm. Meanwhile Qing Kui tries to instill goodness in the rough and disorderly Chengyuan Realm.
Not only that, love began to grow in the hearts of Ye Tan and Shao Dian You Qin. Meanwhile Qing Kui slowly manages to make Third Prince Chao Feng (Luke Chen) love her.
However, there is something Qing Kui doesn’t know about the man she loves. In reality, Chao Feng was the mastermind who exchanged palanquins with Ye Tan and used him to become the Crown Prince.
Another problem also slowly arises when Qing Kui and Ye Tan’s true identities are exposed as twin flower reincarnations.
Will Shao Dian You Qin and Chao Feng defend the woman he loves or join them in destroying them? This was because the presence of Qing Kui and Ye Tan was considered to be able to awaken the Land of Collapse, the Land of the East Hill and annihilate the four realms.
It’s not an exaggeration to say, that the main attraction of The Starry Love comes from its two main partners. The story of the love and sacrifice of the couple Ye Tan and Shao Dian You Qin, as well as the couple Qing Kui and Chao Feng, really made me curious.
First, the acting performed by Landy Li as Ye Tan and He Xuan Lin as Qing Kui looks absolutely flawless. They show chemistry as brother and sister despite having different lives.
The depiction of their opposite characters is also shown very well. Including character development when the mischievous Ye Tan transforms into the figure of a Graceful Goddess. Then the change of Qing Kui from a gentle woman to a brave and clever figure, is presented very well.
Meanwhile, Chen Xing Xu, who plays Shao Dian You Qin, has to work harder than the others. Playing four characters at once, I was quite amazed because Chen Xing Xu still displayed stable and convincing acting. The way he brings together four personalities in one character in the second half looks very satisfying.
As for Luke Chen, this handsome actor managed to attract attention with the cunning and caring character of Third Prince Chao Feng. The charm of his handsome face and his mischievous and cunning character, instead of making him hate him, make him furious.
His chemistry with He Xuan Lin also looks very strong, to the point that many fans find it difficult to move on from them.
It must be admitted that The Starry Love has a plot that is indeed complicated and has many important things. Not only focus on the Sky Realm and Chengyuan Realm, but the stories of the Human Tribe and the Beast Tribe are also presented here.
It’s a shame that information about the Human Tribe and the Beast Tribe is very minimal, but not too disturbing.
Although there are many conflicts, from conspiracies to past secrets, everything is explained slowly. Writer Ma Jia also intersperses his various problems with romantic love stories to various intriguing comedic actions.
For me, this complicated storyline still feels light and is worked out very coherently. Even though Ma Jia worked out the plot well, it turns out that there are still some plot holes that are quite disturbing.
The story of the past when Tanah Bukit Timur was slaughtered by the previous Kings, holds many mysteries. There are many plots about twin flowers that should be explored from past stories, but were not explored by the writers and directors.
When talking about Chinese dramas with the xianxia genre, what I look forward to the most is the cinematography, the beauty of the sets from each realm, to the wardrobe used.
Although simple, director Chu Yui Bun manages to portray the five realms very well. Even though there are many repetitions of places, the different shooting angles make the impression in each scene feel unique.
I quite understand this because every corner of every realm, except for the Human Tribe, requires a lot of CGI. There are lots of stunning scenes that are imprinted in my mind.
One of them was when Shao Dian You Qin took Ye Tan to see the stars in the sky. Then the scene when Chao Feng took Qing Kui to see the meteor shower in the Chengyuan Realm was no less stunning.
Then the wardrobe used by the two main characters, namely Landy Li and He Xuan Lin, is anti-monotonous. I think the wardrobe team realized that audiences easily get bored with the same wardrobe, so they gave us some new clothes.
The color tones used for both the cinematography and wardrobe are also more towards cool tones, such as blue, green, light purple, and black.
Wrapped nicely, the various complicated plots in The Starry Love really feel light and fun to watch. The acting and chemistry shown by all the main and supporting cast is indeed the main attraction.
