Premier League: Harvey Elliott, Liverpool Wonderkid who stole the attention of Manchester United legend

Manchester United legend Gary Neville praised Liverpool’s wonderkid Harvey Elliott’s performance during the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday (28/8/2021).

The 18-year-old retained his place in the team after last week’s 2-0 win over Burnley and put in a superb display as Liverpool took on Chelsea at Anfield.

“He’s brilliant,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“He was confident, the first few touches were incredible and brought a bit of urgency to Liverpool through midfield.”

Neville praised the midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

“When he has the ball I think he brings a little push and a little something is possible. He seemed to try and do something and take a risk.”

“A very good game, his second Premier League debut and the first time I’ve seen him in person. Fantastic performance,” he said.

Mature
Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp was also impressed by Elliott’s performance at Anfield.

“He plays with maturity. He’s very comfortable on the ball, he looks like he’s been playing here for years,” said Redknapp.

Elliott is a graduate of Fulham Academy. He debuted in the Premier League on 4 May 2019, after coming on as a substitute for Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa in the 88th minute of the duel against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He became the youngest Premier League player at 16 years and 30 days, beating the record set by fellow Fulham player Matthew Briggs in 2007.

“One or two times I wanted him to be a little more responsible and make the difference.”

“I think if he continues like this he can continue playing regularly. I found it interesting, Klopp played it down and was never too excited.”
