Leicester –Manchester City won 1-0 when they visited Leicester City in the fourth week of the Premier League. Bernardo Silva became the only goal scorer of this match.
Playing at the King Power Stadium, Saturday (11/9/2021), it took Man City an hour to break into the Leicester goal which was guarded by Kasper Schmeichel. Bernardo Silva managed to take advantage of a wild ball in front of goal and finished it into a goal.
The only goal was enough to make Pep Guardiola’s squad move up to second place with 9 points, one point behind Manchester United, who won 4-1 over Newcastle United. Meanwhile, Leicester are in ninth place with 6 points.
Man City almost took the lead in the 7th minute, had Gabriel Jesus’ header not been saved by Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Leicester hit back a minute later. Harvey Barnes tried to snatch Jamie Vardy’s cross, but Ederson quickly blocked it. The collision between the two caused the match to be temporarily suspended. Ederson received medical treatment, but was able to continue the game.
The pressure from Leicester continued in the 11th minute. Jannik Vestergaard grabbed a corner from Barnes, but his header was yet to find its way into the Man City goal.
Man City’s turn to push back. Bernardo Silva forced Schmeichel back to work hard to save his shot in the 19th minute. Meanwhile, Jack Grealish’s shot in the 22nd minute which received a free kick from Ilkay Guendogan still bounced over the goal.
Ferran Torres had a chance in the 28th minute after managing to overcome the Leicester defense in the penalty box, but the Spaniard’s strike was caught by Schmeichel.
The meeting of the Leicester defense makes Man City difficult. Guendogan tried to release a long-range shot in the 43rd minute, but Schmeichel was again quick to keep the net. The score 0-0 closed the first half.
Leicester almost took the lead in the 47th minute, when Vardy’s cross was met by Barnes, but his header still hit Ederson’s post.
Man City threatened back through Ferran Torres in the 55th minute, but his shot deviated slightly on the side of the goal. A minute later, Gundogan’s header was also not on target.
GOAL! Man City broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute. Joao Cancelo’s long-range strike hit Caglar Soyuncu but a wild ball in the box was controlled by Bernardo Silva and the Portuguese midfielder’s strike beat Schmeichel.
These advantages add to the spirit of Man City. Kyle Walker came close to extending the lead in the 72nd minute, but his shot on the edge of the box was punched by Schmeichel off the pitch.
Leicester brought on Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho to sharpen the attack. The combination of the two almost produced a goal in the 76th minute.
On the counter-attack, Iheanacho slotted in a through ball for Lookman who was only to face Ederson, but the Brazil keeper came out of the net and thwarted the chance.
Iheanacho also had a chance in the 83rd minute after picking up Marc Albrighton’s pass, but his header went wide on the left of Ederson’s goal.
Jack Grealish came close to killing the game in injury time while only to face Schmeichel, but his shot was blocked by the Danish goalkeeper. Even so, Man City still came home with three points with a 1-0 win.
