La Liga: Barcelona eye three Chelsea stars as alternatives to Raheem Sterling

Barcelona have included three Chelsea players in the list of players for the January 2022 transfer market. The three players will be alternatives, with Manchester City striker Raheem Sterling on the list of priority purchases.

Barcelona has just brought in Xavi Hernandez as the architect of the new team following the dismissal of Ronald Koeman who was deemed to have failed to lift the performance of the Catalan club. Barcelona is currently in ninth place in the Spanish La Liga standings.

Xavi’s return to Camp Nou, of course with a different role, makes Barcelona ready to improve. Even when the winter transfer window opens in January 2022, a number of players are ready to be targeted by the Catalan team.

One of them is because Barcelona need more players who are ready to compete, following the condition of Sergio Aguero who recently suffered from heart problems with the possibility of hanging up his boots in the near future.

As reported by Sport , Barcelona are reportedly interested in being able to bring in three Chelsea players in the winter transfer market, in addition to signing Aguero’s former partner, Raheem Sterling, who is reportedly a priority to be brought.

Alternative if Failed to Get Sterling
Raheem Sterling is Barcelona’s priority target for the winter. However, anticipating the possibility that Manchester City will not let him go, Barcelona are preparing alternative targets.

Chelsea will potentially have to struggle to keep their players, such as Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Hakim Ziyech. Because these three players are included in Barcelona’s buying list.

Pulisic was an expensive player who was brought in by Chelsea when he lost Eden Hazard to Real Madrid in 2019. The American player was initially often plagued with injuries that made Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel frustrated.

Pulisic has only made two appearances for Chelsea in the Premier League this season, in which he has scored once. Barcelona also wanted his services.

Likewise with Hudson-Odoi, who often lacked consistency but was able to shine when Chelsea was still managed by Maurizio Sarri. Chelsea wanted him like another Chelsea player, Hakim Ziyech.

Signed by Lampard in the summer of 2020, the Moroccan player had to struggle at Chelsea. Barcelona also wants the player who was raised by Ajax.

La Liga: After Dani Alves, Barcelona eyeing Chelsea left-back

Xavi Hernandez wants Barcelona to sign Marcos Alonso from Chelsea after officially signing Dani Alves.

Previously, Barcelona confirmed on Friday that Dani Alves would rejoin as of January 2022. The 38-year-old defender will spend the 2021/2022 La Liga season at Camp Nou.

Having strengthened Xavi’s options at right-back, Mundo Deportivo claim that Barcelona are now seeking left-back reinforcements to provide competition for Jordi Alba and have identified Marcos Alonso as a potential target.

Marcos Alonso has made nearly 200 appearances for Chelsea since joining from Fiorentina in 2016, winning the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Lost the competition
The 30-year-old had failed to compete during Frank Lampard’s tenure as manager. However, he re-established himself as a key member of the Chelsea squad under Thomas Tuchel.

However, Alonso still has to battle England international Ben Chilwell for playing time at Chelsea, and may be interested in a return to Spain, having come through Real Madrid’s academy.

Xavi will take charge of his first game as Barcelona coach on Saturday when Espanyol visit the Nou Camp.

After his opening as manager, Xavi insisted he wanted to make Barca great again, telling fans in the stadium, “We are Barca and we have to win every game.”

“I just want to say one thing. We are the best club in the world and we will work hard to achieve success.”

“We are in a difficult situation as a club, but now we just have to think about what is good for Barcelona.”
