Champions League: When Juventus Learned Football From Chelsea

The former England national team coach, Fabio Capello, was fascinated by Chelsea’s tactics when they beat Juventus 4-0 on the fifth matchday of the Champions League at Stamford Bridge, Wednesday (11/24/2021). According to him, the Bianconeri got real football lessons from the Blues.

Fabio Capello served as pundit at Sky Sports Italia for the Chelsea match against Juventus . Seeing the match was difficult for Capello, who is a former player and coach of the Old Lady.

Chelsea really made the visitors miserable. Trevoh Chalobah opened the scoring in the Champions League before fellow academy graduates Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi added two more goals before the hour mark.

Substitute, Timo Werner, made the score 4-0 in injury time, while ensuring Chelsea progress to the round of 16.

After the match, Capello really could not hide his admiration for the way Thomas Tuchel mixed his team when destroying Juventus .

Chelsea Playing Aggressively and Vertically
“I think that’s a real lesson in football from Chelsea,” said Capello commenting on Chelsea’s ferocious performance in that match, as quoted by Football Italia .

“Let’s take Liverpool as an example. They played aggressively and vertically. Tonight we saw Chelsea pressing, running and never passing the ball back. They never started from the back. They were always proactive, always going forward and no passes to the goalkeeper. .”

“This rhythm is never used again in Italy. There is a big difference in speed and quality compared to our league,” he added.

Italian Clubs Must Learn
According to Capello, Italian League clubs have a lot to learn from this experience.

“In Italy you play too much with the goalkeeper. I think they are two German coaches. Maybe we need to learn from them and renew ourselves,” continued Capello.
