10 Months of Vacuum from MotoGP, Andrea Dovizioso Instead Finds Happiness

Petronas Yamaha SRT racer , Andrea Dovizioso , admitted that he did not feel sad at all when he had to vacuum for ten months from MotoGP , after deciding to leave Ducati in mid-November 2020. This he conveyed to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Friday (8/10/2021).

‘Dovi’ decided to distance himself from MotoGP after his relationship with Ducati ended badly. He admitted that he would only return if there was a promising offer. That wish came true in early September, following the controversial split between Maverick Vinales and Monster Energy Yamaha.

Franco Morbidelli was suddenly transferred to the factory team, and Yamaha tied Dovizioso to a factory contract to defend Petronas Yamaha SRT for the remainder of the season, as well as next year, when the team will change its name to RNF Racing. Uniquely, Dovizioso was not very sad during the vacuum.

Can You Practice Motocross More Often?
Dovizioso found serenity out of routine from a young age. He can also practice motocross more often, his first ‘love’. “Ten fun months. After repeating the same thing for 20 years, let alone not living peacefully last year, you find pleasure when you no longer do the same routine,” he said.

“I live winter freely, without commitment. I even bought a camper car , motocross practice every day. In short, I don’t feel bad when I’m no longer racing,” said the three-time MotoGP runner-up and 2004 GP125 world champion.

Dovizioso had seriously considered hanging up his helmet, but felt challenged when Yamaha wooed him with a factory contract. He also accepted it, but did not deny that he was ‘lucky’ to get this opportunity thanks to the tuning fork manufacturer’s conflict with Vinales.

Will not accept offers other than Yamaha
I really needed the proposal, because I was sure I would not accept another offer. It feels good to be able to feel the sensation that only MotoGP can give. The atmosphere in it is very unique,” he was quoted as saying by Corsedimoto.

On the other hand, Dovizioso also does not have grandiose targets this season, where he is still driving the 2019 version of the M1. “My target this year is to adapt as best as possible. My current bike package is not very competitive, but next year it will not be like this again. Even so , I have to change my racing style,” he concluded.

Dovizioso will return to the track in the Emilia Romagna MotoGP at the Misano Circuit on October 22-24. Next year, he will get the 2022 version of the factory-spec M1 bike, and is scheduled to test the bike in post-season testing in Jerez, Spain, 18-19 November.

Never minder, Andrea Dovizioso: It’s natural for young MotoGP riders to have different styles

Petronas Yamaha SRT racer , Andrea Dovizioso , admits that he is not at all worried about having to fight so many young riders with aggressive racing styles in MotoGP . This he conveyed to MotoGP.com, Tuesday (12/10/2021), after ten months of vacuum and returning to race in the San Marino and Austin series.

Next year, considering that Valentino Rossi will retire at the end of the season, Dovizioso will officially become the oldest rider on the MotoGP grid. In March 2022, he will be 36 years old. Even so, the three-time runner-up did not feel inferior, and instead was eager to appear competitive, even determined to win the title in 2022.

The last few seasons, MotoGP competition is very tight. This season there are also many fierce young riders, such as Fabio Quartararo, Pecco Bagnaia, Joan Mir, Jack Miller, Brad Binder, and even debutants like Jorge Martin and Enea Bastianini. Young riders are synonymous with aggression, but Dovizioso feels this is a normal trend.

The closer you are, the harder it is to get to the top
This Italian rider is sure, changes in the style of racing in MotoGP occur along with changes in motor technology as well. They ride in different ways. This is normal, because the tires and MotoGP bikes are constantly changing. The difference is that now all are very close together, so fighting at the top is not easy,” he said.

The big changes that have occurred in MotoGP lately are electronics and aerodynamics. As is known, MotoGP has implemented electronic uniformity since 2016, and Ducati has pioneered many types of aerodynamics that other manufacturers are now also implementing. Even though he didn’t like it, Dovizioso understood that the riders had to adapt.

So it’s very difficult to fight, especially when you’re trailing someone. But without aerodynamics, it’s impossible to stick and overtake them. It’s difficult and you have to be fast.” he said.

Feeling Have Enough Experience
Dovizioso also believes that it is the racer’s job to adapt to all the MotoGP motorcycle technology that continues to change and develop. He also feels that there is no need to be burdened because there is nothing easy in finding competitive performance in the championship.

I don’t need to be stressed, because competing in MotoGP is difficult. However, I think I have the experience to deal with everything well,” concluded the 2004 GP125 world champion.

Dovizioso will return to compete at the Misano Circuit in the Emilia Romagna MotoGP race week on October 22-24. He is currently ranked 25th in the drivers’ standings with three points, having just returned to racing in the San Marino and Austin Series.
