Spanish League: Barcelona Patiently Awaiting Cesar Azpilicueta’s Decision, Which Is Important Free

Barcelona are reportedly ready to remain patient in their efforts to sign Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta on a free transfer.

The legendary Blues captain, who has won every club trophy during his time at Stamford Bridge, is now into his 10th season.

However, the full-back has only four months left on his contract and Chelsea appear reluctant to offer the 32-year-old any more than 12 months.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via Sports Mole, Wednesday (2/3/2022), Barcelona are ready to give the Spanish national team player a two-year contract with an option of a third.

Romano added, Barcelona are not in a hurry to get the defender. He said Barca wanted Azpilicueta to be comfortable with any decision given the time he spent with his family in England.

Earlier on Tuesday (1/3/2022), Barcelona were claimed to be on the verge of signing Azpilicueta team-mate Andreas Christensen, who is also on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Interestingly, Chelsea and Barcelona have been involved in friction in recent months, especially over the transfer market.

Barcelona are reportedly eyeing the Blues’ defensive trident, namely Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, and Cesar Azpilicueta. On the other hand, Chelsea is said to have been interested in hijacking Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo, and Sergino Dest.

According to El Nacional , Wednesday (19/1/2022), Chelsea are indeed interested in bringing in three Blaugrana players. However, the composition is different from what was mentioned earlier.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly eyeing Frenkie de Jong, Gavi and Sergino Dest. Unmitigated, the Blues prepared 130 million euros or equivalent to Rp. 2.1 trillion to realize the ambitious transfer.

De Jong is included in the transfer list of several big European clubs. He failed to present an attractive appearance at the Camp Nou this season. Gavi and Nico Gonzalez threaten his very existence.

The Dutch player is said to be priced at around 60 million euros (Rp 977.2 billion). Currently, Chelsea have N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic for the two midfield spots. But all three of them were barely fit at the same time, so the Blues needed the services of De Jong.
