The creatives behind Britney Spears’ new musical

Once Upon a One More Time will be the third musical to be presented on Broadway with melodies from the Princess of Pop. Let’s remember that in Juliet and Moulin Rouge!, there are musical moments based on themes from the Princess of Pop.

David Leveaux (Nine, Romeo and Juliet on Broadway, Jesus Christ Superstar Live NBC) serves as creative consultant, with stage design by Anna Fleischle (hang men), costume design and hairstyling by Loren Elstein (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead), lighting design by Kenneth Posner (Wicked, Beetlejuice), sound design by Andrew Keister (KPOP, on your feet) and projection design by Sven Ortel (Newsies). The casting has not yet been announced.

This idea premiered in 2021 with the Washington DC Shakespeare Theater Company and after workshops, adjustments and modifications, Once Upon a One More Time it will reach the Main Stem for the New York spring.

What is a Musical Jukebox?

The concept of Jukebox Musical refers to a tendency in musical theater to take as a base popular songs that are part of the repertoire of hits of a band or artist with wide media or commercial diffusion.

Some successful examples of them are Saturday Night Fever, with themes of bee gees, Mama Mia!, with the successes of abba, hoh I can’t get up with songs of Meccano, Rock Of Ages, with eighties glam metal or Moulin Rouge!, with romantic musical hits of all time. In Mexico lies the musical, with themes from the 80s in Spanish, it has remained on the billboard for more than a decade.
