Tottenham Hotspur celebrated a goal when they hosted Leicester City in the 7th week of the 2022/2023 Premier League. The team nicknamed The Lillywhites won 6-2 over the Foxes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sunday (18/9/2022) early morning WIB.
South Korean player, Son Heung-min became the star of Tottenham Hotspur ‘s victory in this match. He scored a hat trick aka three goals against Leicester. The other three goals each were created by Harry Kane, Eric Dier, and Rodrigo Bentancur.
This achievement at the same time makes Son Heung-min seem to silence the criticism he directed at the beginning of this season. Son Heung-min has been sluggish, failing to score in six games earlier this season.
He’s been sitting on the bench a lot lately. Tottenham Hotspur coach Antonio Conte often relies on players like Harry Kane, Richarlison, and Dejan Kulusevski to fill the front line posts.
Son Heung-min seemed to provide a magical touch on the pitch for Tottenham’s level of play against Leicester. He was only entered by Antonio Conte in the second half, precisely in the 69th minute.
Or when the Spurs are in a 3-2 lead situation. Son Heung-min’s explosion began by opening his goal tap in the 73rd minute. Received Bentancur’s pass, then he sent a long curling shot past both defenders and Ward and into the top right corner.
Eleven minutes later Son returned again with a similar effort. Receiving a pass from Harry Kane on the edge of the box, Son took a touch to curl a left-footed shot past six defenders and found the Leicester goal.
Two minutes later Son scored his third, after receiving a superb through ball from Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. Son sent a low shot to beat Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward back.
Son Heung-min couldn’t help but feel happy after the referee blew the long whistle. It’s not just a crucial victory for Spurs, who now share the top position with Manchester City.
But the return of goals that flowed from him. Son’s impressive performance will make him more confident facing this season’s journey and also the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“It was an amazing feeling,” Son said after the match quoted by Korea JoongAng Daily.
“I can’t believe it.
“I learned a lot in this difficult period. I have to work hard all the time to get opportunities.”
Son Heung-min’s sharp return has made many people throw praises. Starting from his coach Antonio Conte and also former Spurs player, Jamie Redknaap.
This is the perfect example of what one has to do as a player,” said Jamie Redknaap.
Antonio Conte praised Son after the game, saying he was “very happy” for him and joking that he might repeat trying to include Son as a substitute.
