Ricketts family wants to meet Chelsea fan group

The Ricketts family has been rejected by a group of supporters and former Chelsea players due to Islamophobia . They want to meet and communicate.
The Ricketts are one of at least six groups of investors who have made bids for Chelsea. Chelsea is in the process of being sold by Roman Abramovich because of its connection to sanctions due to Russia ‘s invasion of Ukraine .

Abramovich is known to have close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin . He has now been sanctioned by the British Government to freeze assets, which also affects Chelsea ‘s operations .

Ricketts showed his seriousness to buy Chelsea by flying directly to London. However, a wave of rejection emerged from supporters and former Chelsea players, due to the Islamophobic email case carried out by the head of the family, Joe Ricketts, in 2019.

At that time Joe called the Muslim group as enemies, though later apologized. At the same time, a source close to the Ricketts family stated that Joe did not interfere in the purchase of Chelsea.

The Chelsea purchase project itself was led by Tom Ricketts, Joe’s son. However, this does not eliminate the concern among supporters, especially since they have Muslim squad members such as N’Golo Kante, Antonio Ruediger, Hakim Ziyech, and Malang Sarr.

The Ricketts family has issued a statement regarding the issue of Islamophobia. They also try to meet with the supporters’ group to establish communication.

“Our family strongly rejects all forms of hatred. Racism and Islamophobia have no place in our environment,” the Ricketts family said in a statement.

“We have developed deep and lasting partnerships with the Muslim community in Chicago, as well as with all other communities of color.”

“Respect for diversity and inclusion is central to our family’s values. If we are successful in our bid for Chelsea, we are committed to the club and its supporters that we will actively promote these values,” the statement read .
