[REVIEW] “SUPER JUNIOR: LAST MAN MAN MAN standing”, The Struggle Story of the K-POP Legend’s 18-Year Career
The Hallyu Wave began to enter Indonesia in the early 2000s. K-Pop became a popular pop among Indonesians back then and even today. SUPER JUNIOR is one of the most recognizable names in Indonesia in the ranking of K-Pop groups.
To commemorate the 18th anniversary of his career, SUPER JUNIOR also released a documentary called SUPER JUNIOR: THE LAST MAN STANDING, which will air on Disney+ Hotstar on January 18, 2023. Fans will be invited by Leeteuk, Heechul, Yesung, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Donghae. , Siwon, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun to listen to their stories from audition to success records all over the world, starting from Asia.
1. Last Man Standing
SUPER JUNIOR debuted with 12 members on November 6, 2005, by then Kyuhyun had joined to be the last member of the group to date. In his 18-year career, SUPER JUNIOR has achieved many successes in the world of K-Pop and was carved gold ink for worldwide recognition.
Keeping a name in the music world isn’t easy, especially as more and more new band names are debuting. But SUPER JUNIOR is still active and even toured the world until the age of 18, becoming ‘The Last Man Standing’ as they describe in their song SUPERMAN.
Choosing the phrase LAST MAN STANDING for the title of the SUPER JUNIOR documentary seems appropriate because it really describes SUPER JUNIOR, as in the lyrics, ‘gyeolguk SUPER JUNIOR (finally SUPER JUNIOR) is the last man standing’.
2. Stories about the Past, Present, and Future
This documentary isn’t just about how they’ve achieved countless successes throughout their careers. However, we would be invited to get to know the stories of the members, from their audition, through their training, to when SUPER JUNIOR was born, and to the record of their achievements.
We will not only see the stories of the members, but also of the then-lead executive who was the COO of SUPER JUNIOR’s agency SM Entertainment. As we look back on their successful journey, we’ll be listening to a previously unreleased interview with the members.
3. The Return of the Dark Ages of SUPER JUNIOR
SUPER JUNIOR is very professional in sharing stories about their journey, for members, stories about SUPER JUNIOR are not just stories of happiness and success. But we can also see how these members go back to their dark times, starting with the big fights between the members when the debut failed, to when Kyuhyun had little chance of surviving after the accident.
E.L.F. Viewers, of course, this story will remind once again that it was not easy for these 13 members to stand upright until now. Members share their personal stories and emotions to provide E.L.F. with new, unmissable insights. (As SUPER JUNIOR fans) and for those who don’t know this group. For SUPER JUNIOR, this story also needs to be shared as part of the story of becoming a star in a career.
4. If You Loved SUPER JUNIOR, You’ll Love This Documentary
This documentary is told in such detail and coherently that it feels like we’ve been participating in SUPER JUNIOR’s life for the past 18 years. We would be invited to laugh and cry with them. SUPER JUNIOR doesn’t forget members who are no longer active in their careers like Kibum, Kangin, Sungmin, and Hangeng.
Just as Leeteuk, as the leader of SUPER JUNIOR, said at a special press conference a while ago, “If you like SUPER JUNIOR, you’ll love this (documentary) because you’ll know a lot. If you don’t, you’ll like to know. There’s a lot about us. Please SUPER JUNIOR : Love THE SON MAN STADING a lot.”
