Premier League: Planning to strengthen Aston Villa’s defense, Steven Gerrard wants to hijack Liverpool defender

Aston Villa manager, Steven Gerrard, intends to strengthen his team’s defense by bringing in a new defender in the next winter transfer market. The Liverpool legend is also targeting the player who is now defending the Reds, Joe Gomez, to be brought to Villa Park in January 2022.

Steven Gerrard’s reasons for looking for players from Liverpool are understandable. He is a legend at Liverpool and was the coach of Liverpool’s youth team a few years ago.

Now reportedly Gerrard wants Gomez on loan from Liverpool and will try to make an offer in the January transfer window.

However, it is very likely that Jurgen Klopp does not want to let Joe Gomez go. Mainly because of problems in defense that also hit Liverpool last season.

Meanwhile for the Liverpool defender , the offer to play at other clubs, including Aston Villa, will be a real opportunity to get more playing time in order to strengthen the England national team at the 2022 World Cup which will be held in Qatar.

Should Joe Gomez Leave Anfield?
Joe Gomez is currently 24 years old, heading into the golden age of his football career. However, with Liverpool , he has only played for 13 minutes in the Premier League this season, and has started once in the Champions League.

Joe Gomez is clearly struggling to get playing minutes at Liverpool. Even though the player has a strong desire to penetrate the Three Lions squad and needs more playing minutes to attract the attention of the England manager, Gareth Southgate.

Having been called an extraordinary player by Jurgen Klopp earlier this season, Joe Gomez clearly has high value at Anfield. However, it is not visible if you take into account the playing minutes he gets.

With the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate at Liverpool, it seems Aston Villa is a good opportunity for Joe Gomez. Moreover, the relationship between Steven Gerrard and Liverpool could help the move process.

However, Aston Villa also already have Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa. That is, Gomez also needs to fight to be able to get playing minutes at Villa Park.

Premier League: Michael Owen says Steven Gerrard’s debut as Aston Villa coach will end in defeat

Former Liverpool player Michael Owen predicts Steven Gerrard will lose in his first game as the new manager of Aston Villa.

After retiring as a player, Steven Gerrard took charge of Rangers in 2018. The former Liverpool captain managed to present the Scottish League title there.

Last week, Gerrard was officially appointed as the new manager of Aston Villa. He replaced the sacked Dean Smith.

Gerrard will make his debut as Villa manager this weekend. They will face Brighton & Hove Albion at Villa Park, Saturday (20/11/2021), at 22.00 WIB.

The situation at Aston Villa is not good
Villa have lost five in a row in the Premier League and are in 16th place. Owen assesses Steven Gerrard is still difficult to lift the performance of Villa.

“A lot has changed since Villa’s last game and Steven Gerrard is now in charge,” Owen told BetVictor .

I don’t think Steven Gerrard will have enough time to turn things around.”

Brighton Will Win
Brighton’s recent form has also not been good as they have won five of their six Premier League matches. Even so, Owen supported Graham Potter’s team to win.

“Villa are clearly struggling and I don’t think Steven Gerrard will have enough time to turn things around. I predict a 2-1 win for Brighton,” he said.
