Premier League: Manchester City silenced Everton, Pep Guardiola pleased his team controlled the game

Manchester City won a landslide victory over Everton in the 12th Premier League match which was held at the Etihad Stadium, Sunday (11/21/2021). Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, was pleased that his team was able to control the game.

Manchester City opened the scoring through Raheem Sterling’s goal in the 44th minute. After that, Rodri doubled The Citizens’ advantage in the 54th minute and the party of Pep Guardiola’s team was closed by Bernardo Silva’s goal in the 85th minute.

Not only that, Manchester City also dominated the game from the start. Even The Citizens were able to record possession of the ball up to more than 70 percent throughout the match.

Pep Guardiola was pleased with the performance shown by his team. Despite the difficulty because Everton played with a tight defense, The Citizens were able to maximize the momentum to score goals.

“We applied rhythm to our game. They defended very well, were deep and relied on the counter-attack,” Pep Guardiola told Sky Sports .

“In general, we controlled the game. We played the game we had to play to beat a team like Everton,” continued the Manchester City manager .

Kudos to Rodri
In that match, the second goal scored by Rodri was spectacular. Starting from Manchester City ‘s attack which was driven away by Everton players, the clearance made by The Toffees’ defense made the visitors feel relieved.

On Raheem Sterling’s Performance
Raheem Sterling is playing his 300th Premier League game in this match. Several times the England national team striker made opportunities to score until finally sweet fruit in the 44th minute.

Using a through ball from Joao Cancelo from the middle of the pitch, Raheem Sterling picked up the ball in the heart of the Everton defense and immediately fired a volley that made the ball unable to be blocked by Pickford. This goal brought Manchester City 1-0 up.

Pep Guardiola also gave his appreciation to the striker. The Spaniard admits Sterling has been a key player in his team’s game since he arrived at the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola now hopes the player can continue to show good performances in every game.

“I know him quite well. Since I came here, he is a key player for us. He has to perform like he showed today and I am happy for him. He did a great job,” said Guardiola.
