Premier League: After Man City beat Manchester United, Erik ten Hag and Pep Guardiola express concern over Kanjuruhan tragedy

 

The Kanjuruhan tragedy that occurred on Saturday (1/10/2022) has attracted worldwide attention. No exception for the two English Premier League club coaches, Erik ten Hag and Pep Guardiola, after the match between Man City and Manchester United (MU) at the Etihad Stadium, Sunday (2/10/2022).

The Manchester derby between Man City and Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium ended 6-3 in favor of the home team. In the match, the players from both teams wore black bands on their arms.

The black ribbon is a symbol of condolence for the Kanjuruhan Tragedy that occurred after the 2022/2023 Liga 1 match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, Saturday (1/10/2022).

A total of 125 victims died from the rioting incident at the Arema FC headquarters.

After the Manchester derby ended, Erik ten Hag and Pep Guardiola also expressed their concern for what happened at the Kanjuruhan Stadium.

Erik ten Hag’s concerns

While undergoing a press conference after the defeat suffered by MU, Erik ten Hag was also asked about the Kanjuruhan Tragedy that occurred in Indonesia. Erik ten Hag admitted that he had seen the video clip and considered it a disaster.

“Yes I saw it. It was a total disaster,” said Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch coach also expressed his concern for what happened in Malang.

“We are very sad to see it. Our thoughts are with the family and everyone in Indonesia,” he continued.

Terrible in the eyes of Pep Guardiola

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola also knows what happened in Malang. He called the Kanjuruhan Tragedy a very terrible thing and compared it to the dispute between Ukraine and Russia that some time ago took the world’s attention.

“It’s terrible, really terrible. What happens here ends in 2 or 3 hours. It’s like in Ukraine which is no longer happening, Russia which is also not happening anymore,” said Guardiola.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach was also concerned about what happened in Kanjuruhan.

“Our concern is for what is happening in Indonesia. We wish the best for their families and everyone there,” continued the Spaniard.

Kanjuruhan Tragedy, Hundreds of Aremania Died

The tragedy that occurred at the Kanjuruhan Stadium after the match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya did cause great sadness.

Around 125 people died in the riots that occurred after security guards fired tear gas into the stadium stands.

The investigation into the case at the Kanjuruhan Stadium is also being investigated by the police and PSSI as the football federation in Indonesia.

In addition, President Joko Widodo and PT Liga Indonesia Baru as the competition operator also emphasized that the 2022/2023 Liga 1 competition was stopped during the investigation process.
