Chelsea have brought in a lot of quality players over the years. Even so, not all players can last long enough at Stamford Bridge.

There are times when players have to end their careers with Chelsea for different reasons. In fact, there are regrets after leaving the Blues.

Here are five players who regret leaving Chelsea .

Joe Cole
After developing with West Ham, Joe Cole moved to Chelsea in 2003. He was touted as Gianfranco Zola’s successor at Stamford Bridge.

Cole won three Premier League titles during his time at Chelsea. After being in the Blues for seven seasons, Cole moved to Liverpool in 2010.

Failing to sign a new contract led to Cole leaving Chelsea. However, Cole later regretted that his move to Merseyside was not successful.

“I would accept the money they offered me because I didn’t want to leave. It was difficult for me to leave the club at that time. It was difficult,” Cole said.

Michael Ballack
Michael Ballack moved to Chelsea in 2006 on a free transfer. Over time, the German midfielder became a key player for the Blues.

Ballack won one Premier League and three FA Cups with Chelsea. The former Bayer Leverkusen player also appeared in the Champions League final.

After enjoying success in London, Ballack wants to retire at Chelsea. Unfortunately, his wish could not be realized and Ballack decided to return to Leverkusen in 2010.

“I want a two-year contract. Today, I can say maybe it was wrong. I should have stayed, even if it was only one year.”

Chelsea have several Brazilian players who have performed exceptionally for the club. One of them is Willian who joined the Blues in 2013 from Anzhi Makhachkala.

Willian scored 63 goals and 62 assists in 339 appearances for Chelsea. He also helped the Blues win two Premier League titles and one Europa League.

Last season, Willian decided to join Arsenal. Unfortunately, his career with the Gunners did not go according to plan and the player has now returned to Brazil with Corinthians.

“If I had known you (Thiago Silva) had moved to Chelsea, I would have stayed there,” Willian told Thiago Silva jokingly.

Damien Duff
Damien Duff caught the attention of many clubs for his performances at Blackburn Rovers. In 2003, the Irishman moved to Chelsea to play under Claudio Ranieri.

After Ranieri was sacked, Duff had difficulty getting regular playing opportunities under Jose Mourinho. However, Duff was finally able to melt the heart of the Portuguese coach.

Duff won two Premier League titles with Chelsea. However, his togetherness with the Blues had to end in 2006 and left for Newcastle.

“I cried the day I left [Chelsea] – looking back, it might tell me that I made the wrong decision, because I never cried when I left Blackburn, Newcastle or Fulham, or even when I retired. is my own decision,” said Duff.

Eden Hazard
Eden Hazard joined Chelsea in 2012. Hazard became a spectacular player in the Premier League and won two league titles during his time with the Blues.

In 2019, Hazard decided to join Real Madrid. Despite winning La Liga in his first season with Los Blancos, Hazard endured a difficult period with the Spanish giants.

Hazard has not shown his best form and has struggled to make regular appearances due to repeated injuries. Meanwhile, Chelsea have won the Champions League. Without a doubt, Hazard will regret leaving Stamford Bridge.
