-Gerard Pique spends his holidays surfing. However, it became a controversy because the Barcelona defender was injured.
Pique took advantage of the international break by holidaying in Cantabria with his family last weekend. He was later caught on camera surfing with Shakira .
Photos of Pique surfing published by El Diario Montanes then sparked controversy. Because Pique is injured.
Pique suffered a calf injury when Barcelona traveled to Athletic Bilbao’s headquarters in the second week of LaLiga on 22 August. The 34-year-old defender was sent off in the 31st minute and then missed the next game against Getafe.
Pique reportedly confronted the photographer who took the photo and asked him not to publish it. However, Pique’s efforts were fruitless.
Pique then gave a clarification. He said the injury was not serious.
“I have no problem with injuries. They took pictures of us. I surfed because I was fine,” Pique told Marca .
“We asked photographers not to use his photos, but it was their moment of victory.”
It was rumored that Barcelona may be fined Gerard Pique . However, Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that the club would not punish Pique.
“We will not punish him. He has shown his Barcelonismo many times. His professionalism is unquestionable.”
Pique Support for Umtiti
Gerard Pique gives support to Samuel Umtiti who is considered unwanted at Barcelona. That’s what the senior Blaugrana defender said!
Samuel Umtiti entered Barcelona’s list of selling in the summer.
On the other hand, Umtiti has had little chance under coach Ronald Koeman and the decision to stay has been upsetting for Barca fans.
Umtiti was included in the Barcelona squad against Getafe at the end of August. He just sat on the bench and then got ridicule from the fans in the stands.
“Umtiti fulfills the contract with all the obligations. People have to empathize. His attitude is perfect. He never misses a training session. Who really signed the contract? A president elected by the members,” Pique said in a televised program quoted by Marca.
Pique insists that he would do things like Umtiti if he was at another club. Therefore, the 34-year-old defender hopes that all parties empathize with Umtiti.
“Why should we whistle to him? There are many people who have been in this company for 30 years and have done nothing. If I were at another club, for example (Manchester) United, I would have done the same as Umtiti. Every situation is different. I’m just asking people to empathize,” Pique asserted.
Pique: Barcelona can improve in 5 or 10 years
Barcelona are in difficult times at the moment. Blaugrana defender, Gerard Pique , hopes his club can be in a sip position within five or 10 years.
Barcelona is experiencing a financial crisis. The Corona virus pandemic is one of the main factors in the club’s financial collapse.
The Catalan club actually had to cut player salaries on a large scale. The decision to release several players was also made in order to save the club.
Lionel Messi was one of the victims of Barcelona’s financial collapse so he had to be let go to Paris Saint-Germain. Josep Bartomeu as the former club president may be the person most to blame in this case.
“I can’t say if he (Bartomeu) is the worst,” Pique told a television show quoted by Marca.
“From what I’ve been through he definitely falls into that category. We’re all guilty, but it’s true that the club hasn’t gone where all the Catalans want it. Now I’m hopeful and excited the next five or ten years will be very good for us. Barcelona,” Pique continued.
Joan Laporta is currently the president of Barcelona. Pique considers that Laporta needs time to build Barcelona and one way to do that is by retaining coach Ronald Koeman.
“Joan (Laporta) needed more time for reflection and finally chose Koeman. Now he is the ideal coach,” Pique confirmed.
