Wednesday (6/4/2022) early morning WIB yesterday, Manchester City had to be made difficult by Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid who played ultra-defensively in the first leg of the 2021/22 Champions League quarter-final.

Lucky Manchester City can score one goal through the action of Kevin De Bruyne. The Citizens were temporarily winning 1-0 on aggregate even though they now have to play the second leg at Atletico’s headquarters.

Pep Guardiola’s Strategy
Now as reported by The Athletic, Guardiola is using the Manchester City goal boy to try to make Atletico unable to carry out their strategy to buy time.

Before the game, Guardiola reportedly met with City academy staff to discuss his plans for the goalkeeping boys. Guardiola knows very well how Atletico will play.

Guardiola instructed the academy players who were in goal in the match against Atletico to immediately provide a substitute ball when the ball went out of play, either for City or Atletico players.

The Pride of the Academy Players
In fact, Guardiola asked the goalkeeping boys to be very concentrated on carrying out their duties as if they were the ones who played in the match.

In an effort to explain his strategy, Guardiola also made a short video containing concise and clear instructions. This video is shown to the academy players who are tasked with being the goal boys.

Interestingly, some of the academy players felt that they had never been this nervous before. However, they feel proud to be able to provide assistance to the first team in a crucial match.
