Thomas Tuchel is lucky to escape the pressure of Chelsea ‘s poor results in the last two months. Chelsea’s victories over Tottenham in the league and Carabao Cup helped a lot.
Sunday (23/1/2022), Chelsea beat Spurs with a score of 2-0 in the Premier League duel . This win is more important than just three points.
Imagine, Chelsea’s performance in the league has continued to decline since December 2021. They have lost a lot of starting players due to Covid-19 and injuries, but Tuchel is sticking with the same tactics.
Tuchel continued to force Chelsea to play with a 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 formation, even though it was clear that Chelsea had lost important players to launch this formation.
Since December 2021, Chelsea fans have been urging Tuchel to change formation. However, for some reason the German coach continued to insist on playing a three-back formation.
Chelsea lost a lot of valuable points and slowly lost their position at the top of the standings. Tuchel is getting more and more depressed and rumors of sacking are growing.
Fortunately, in the last two weeks Tuchel has started to change Chelsea’s formation to 4-1-4-1 or 4-2-2-2. The results proved satisfactory.
Tuchel’s situation was also observed by Premier League analyst Julien Laurens. According to him, Tuchel had to change his formation and tactics because it was clear that his playing style was more suited to the current Chelsea players.
“He [Tuchel] changed the formation, their style of play also changed. They played with a 4-1-4-1 formation because they wanted to adapt more to the players,” said Laurens on ESPN FC.
“Maybe he wants to put Lukaku in a better environment, to score more goals and to use Lukaku better.”
Worried about being fired?
Laurens realized that Tuchel had been stubborn. He was well acquainted with Tuchel’s nature. Even so, he also believes Tuchel is aware of his difficult position.
“Of course he is a tough coach. You have to be a tough coach at a top club. However, he also understands that sometimes maybe he needs to change things,” continued Laurens.
“He knows the pressure will always be there and when the time comes for the win to stop, he will be in a dangerous position.”
