Liverpool were asked to consider the possibility of signing Antonio Rudiger . Reportedly the Chelsea defender is ready to leave the club at the end of this season.
Rudiger is currently entering the last six months of his contract. This means, as of January 2022, he has the right to negotiate with clubs outside England, and has even been able to sign a pre-contract.
Reportedly Chelsea have tried to offer a new contract for Rudiger. Negotiations have been going on since last year, but reportedly the two parties could not reach an agreement on salaries.
Allegedly Rudiger demanded a significant salary increase. So what is Liverpool’s role in this situation?
Imagine the Van Dijk-Rudiger duo!
Rudiger’s situation caught the attention of former Liverpool player, Jamie Redknapp. According to him, the Reds should not let this valuable opportunity slip away.
He knows Rudiger will be contested by many clubs, especially the top teams outside England. However, Liverpool should have a pretty good chance.
“He [Rudiger] is one of the important players. If you are Chelsea, you have to do everything to keep him. However, from a player’s point of view, he is in a good position,” said Redknapp on Sky Sports.
“I look at my team, Liverpool. You can imagine Rudiger next to Van Dijk. He’s on a free transfer this summer, no need to spend money.”
Rudiger’s situation development
Rudiger’s case is quite unique. Last year, under Frank Lampard, he was knocked out on the bench and rarely got the chance to play.
However, it was Lampard who had to end his tenure sooner. Thomas Tuchel came and Rudiger got another chance to be a starting player.
The result is satisfactory, now he is one of the irreplaceable players. Rudiger can play well in a three-back and four-back formation.
The problem is, negotiations for a new contract are going tough because Rudiger demands a significant salary increase. Chelsea are worried that a big salary could ruin the harmony of the dressing room.
Fighting, determination and brotherhood, the key to Arsenal’s success against Liverpool
Arsenal were able to hold Liverpool to a draw with 10 players. The Gunners coach Mikel Arteta said he was very happy with the struggles of his players in the match.
Arsenal will face Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Friday (14/1/2022) early morning WIB. The match which was held at Anfield Stadium ended with the score 0-0.
In that match, Arsenal had to play with 10 players from the 24th minute. Granit Xhaka was sent off for violating Diogo Jota who was in a free position to score.
Lack of one player does not make Arsenal weak. They were able to prevent Liverpool from scoring against Aaron Ramsdale and grabbing a draw.
After the match, Mikel Arteta praised the fighting spirit shown by his players so that they could hold Liverpool to a draw even though they had to play with 10 players.
“We had fun fighting the situation. The players showed a great fight, determination, brotherhood,” Arteta told Sky Sports .
“You saw the emotion, we never gave up. Credit to the players.”
Playing with 10 men against hosts Liverpool is of course not easy for Arsenal. However, Arteta feels his squad has shown the right attitude.
We played the game we had to play, which was not our game. I haven’t seen it back yet, they checked it so maybe a red card.”
