Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the verge of parting with Manchester United . A 1-4 defeat to Watford in the 12th match of the Premier League left the Norwegian manager only a matter of time to leave his position at Manchester United. Who will be the replacement?
Manchester United have had bad weeks in recent times. Defeats against Liverpool and Manchester City have put Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the spotlight.
However, when Manchester United lost to bottom-tier team Watford, which left the Red Devils 12 points behind Chelsea at the top of the table, Solskjaer’s position was even more desperate.
Manchester United trailed two goals earlier through goals from Joshua King and Ismaila Sarr until they were able to reply through Donny van de Beek’s goal which used a pass from Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Manchester United, who had to play with 10 players due to the red card received by Hary Maguire, made the Red Devils even more desperate.
Watford added to the lead through Joao Pedro and Emmanuel Dennis. This defeat clearly makes Manchester United look worse than when they lost to Liverpool and Manchester City. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer immediately left Old Trafford, and several well-known coaches entered the replacement coach market.
Leading Brendan Rodgers
There are several well-known coaches who are included in the market for candidates to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United . However, the most widely used is Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers.
According to betting site Betfair, as reported by The Sun, Brendan Rodgers is the favorite with 8/15 odds. Meanwhile, the second position is occupied by former Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane with a 4/1 chance.
Zidane has also been heavily linked with a position at Manchester United after Cristiano Ronaldo was said to have agreed to a proposal for the Frenchman to come.
Then there is the coach of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Mauricio Pochettino with a 6/1 chance, ahead of the Ajax coach, Eric ten Hag, and the Head of Sports and Development of Lokomotiv Moscow, Ralf Rangnick, who both have a 10/1 chance.
Brendan Rodgers has indeed become the strongest chance of becoming Solskjaer’s replacement after the Northern Irish coach was able to bring Leicester City to appear quite well since 2019.
Solskjaer to be sacked
Manchester United CEO , Ed Woodward has been very loyal to Solskjaer. The Norwegian manager seems to be a favorite because the club’s management never sacked him after a series of bad defeats.
However, five defeats in seven games appear to have taken a toll on the relationship between Woodward and Solskjaer. Many feel Manchester United needs a change, even former Manchester United players themselves, such as Rio Ferdinand.
It’s worth waiting for how long will Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stay and who will come in to replace him?
