Neil Druckmann himself will co-direct the HBO series The Last of Us

Neil Druckmann will, along with Craig Mazin or Kantemir Balagov, co-direct the HBO series The Last of Us, which will continue production throughout the year.

Neil Druckmann, president of Naughty Dog and creative director of The Last os Us (2013) and The Last of Us Part 2 (2020) will also direct several episodes of television adaptations that HBO is currently preparing. At least, that’s what the DGC, the Canadian Guild of Directors, says, which lists the other four directors.

Kantemir Balagov is the director of the pilot episode, which ended shooting a few weeks ago. Jasmila banić and Ali Abbasi are also the two directors of the series, as announced in April, although in a recent DGC document (which mentions active production in Alberta during September 2021) Abbasi was not mentioned.

According to IMBD, Hoar will direct Chapter 5 of The Last of Us.

Craig Mazin is best known as the creator of the award-winning series Cherbobyl, also on HBO, as well as the author of another future video game adaptation, the Eli Roth-directed film Borderlands.

According to Druckmann, the film failed because it focused too much on action, something the series would correct, “taken like an indie film.”

Production of The Last of Us began in July 2021 and will end, according to DGC documents, on June 8, 2022. The series consists of ten episodes that tell the history of the game, with some changes, yes. It stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Anna Torv as Tess.

The Last of Us doesn’t have a release date, but Kantemir Balagov hints that we could see it in 2022. For now, you can enjoy the latest shooting images, with scenarios nailed to PlayStation games. Will it arrive in time for the next issue of the Emmy Awards?

Since the inception of the HBO television adaptation of the PlayStation video game darling, The Last of Us, Naughty Dog’s own writer and director, Neil Druckmann, has been closely involved with the project. Druckmann himself has co-executed and wrote the series alongside Craig Mazin, who previously worked at HBO’s Chernobyl. However, thanks to a new leak, it seems that Druckmann actually got behind the camera at some point during production and has now been appointed as one of the directors on the series as well.

Mentioned in a new document from the DGC (Directors Guild of Canada), Druckmann is mentioned as the director of The Last of Us.The other directors who will rotate throughout the series. Overall production is said to have also started in July this year (which we know of), while filming is said to be finished in June 2022.

While it might come as a surprise to see Druckmann direct a TV series considering he’s never done it before, he’s completely familiar with the process given how The Last of Us itself was made. Basically, all of the cutscenes seen in The Last of Us were directed by Druckmann. Although the way he directs is a little different considering the show is done via motion capture, he’s still very used to working with actors in this way.

For now, the biggest thing we continue to know about The Last of Us comes with its debut on HBO. At this point, HBO hasn’t said anything about when the series will start airing. That being said, it looks like the first episode will start coming out at some point in 2022, assuming all goes well.
