My Dear Donovan (2022) is indeed one of the Thai dramas that you shouldn’t miss. The drama, which you can watch on the official GMMTV YouTube, will be directed by Golf Sakon Wongsinwiset.

While Luke Ishikawa Plowden and Namtan Tipnaree Weerawatnodom will be lined up as the main actors. It’s undeniable, the chemistry between Luke and Namtan really feels really good.

The difference in the characters and life backgrounds of Donovan and Pam further touched the audience’s feelings. What’s more, there are two female antagonists who always cause trouble and provoke the emotions of the audience.

Pam (Namtan Tipnaree Weerawatnodom) is an English teacher who teaches at a kindergarten. At her mother’s request, Pam agreed to work as a translator for a model for one day.

The model, who is under the auspices of her mother’s agency, is known as Donovan (Luke Ishikawa Plowden).

At first, Pamm thought Donovan was nothing more than a male model who was arrogant, cold and liked to make fun of women.

But this thought changed, when Pam saw that there was fear and loneliness in Donovan. But to the annoyance of this woman, Pam felt that her mother had cheated her because Donovan was not looking for an interpreter but a manager.

At first, Pam turned down the job as Donovan’s manager. But he needed a lot of money for his grandfather’s treatment, Pam also accepted the job.

However, it was from here that both Pam and Donovan got to know each other and grew love between the two. Unfortunately, this relationship has to face a lot of obstacles.

First, Pam has to cat and mouse with her grandfather who doesn’t like the non-Thai guy his grandson is close to. This is also what made his grandfather hate Pam’s mother, who chose to marry a foreign man.

Their relationship is also opposed by their mother, Parichat (Took Chanokwanun), because her mother doesn’t want Pam to make the same decision as her.

On the other hand, they also have to deal with two women who are so obsessed with Donovan. There is Dararai (Tong Pakkaramai Potranan), a businessman who is willing to do anything to get Donovan.

On the other hand, there is Jessica (Aerin Yuktadatta), Donovan’s ex-girlfriend and co-worker who often interferes with Donovan and Pam’s relationship. At first, Pam and Donovan believed that their love was strong enough to overcome all odds.

However, suddenly Donovan chose to end their relationship to save Pam. Because of Dararai and Jessica’s actions, Donovan had to leave the woman he loved most and shut himself off from the modeling industry.

Not only that, Donovan was also stricken with deep sadness when he learned about the fate of his older brother who died in a tragic way. As for Pam, she wasn’t willing if Donovan just left her before they even tried. Is this the end of the love story between Pam and Donovan?

Since the first episode, I have felt that the premise brought by My Dear Donovan (2022) is indeed very cliché .

There are many love stories between two people who have different backgrounds and personalities. However, I will give some good and bad things that bother me while watching this GMMTV drama.

In terms of the story, it doesn’t feel boring because there are many characters and plots and very diverse characters. I also like how Pam and Donovan’s relationship happened, there is a classic love story feel here.

However, there are potential plots that are not developed even though they have the potential to make the drama more exciting. Call it the matter of Donovan’s trauma, which I think will be the center and the biggest stumbling block.

This premise is very good, because from the beginning this story has been raised and developed properly. But in the end, to be honest, I was very disappointed that this plot was simply blown away and forgotten.

Then about the old-fashioned side of Pam’s grandfather who doesn’t like non-Thai people, I hope there is an explanation that is more than just “narrow-minded or conservative”. Not to mention the character of Aood and his two antagonists which are really underexplored.

Although from a story perspective, My Dear Donovan (2022) is very monotonous and has no appeal. At least this drama was saved by the chemistry between Namtan Tipnaree Weerawatnodom and Luke Ishikawa Plowden.

Both of them provide an appropriate character description and provide a romantic side that makes the audience really feel sad when they see it. A typical romcom , Pam is a shy girl while Donovan is an expressive type of guy.

Namtan Tipnaree Weerawatnodom amazed me again after seeing him in Old Good Days (2022). This one actress does have acting skills and a mature character understanding.

Because Pam’s clumsy style and all her thoughts were clear from the look on her face. As for Luke Ishikawa Plowden, I admit that his appearance here looks more mature.

Luke’s acting has developed greatly and is much more promising, since I saw him in the drama Oh My Boss (2021). Even though his acting is still unstable, I don’t have a problem with the soul of the character and the facial expressions he shows.

One more thing that I would like to comment on is the sensual scene shown in this drama directed by Golf Sakon Wongsinwiset.

Regardless of the wishes of the director and story writer who want to show the dark side of the Thai entertainment industry. But for a drama that is freely accessible, I’m a bit less comfortable with the sensuality it shows.

I like the idea that men can also be victims of harassment. In this case, Donovan is shown as a man who was abused by Dararai and Jessica. I like this idea, because there are rarely dramas that want to adapt it.

Unfortunately, the way of delivery given by director Golf Sakon Wongsinwiset made me uncomfortable. This drama includes too many scenes, I think this plot is too shallow and even distorts the main message to be conveyed. Here is my synopsis and short review after watching My Dear Donovan (2022).
