Everton’s popularity as a Premier League contestant may not be as famous as other clubs. In the last few seasons, the achievements of the club nicknamed The Toffees are also fairly minimal. However, it is different in terms of transfer policy.
Since the first, Everton has successfully given birth to top names, such as Wayne Rooney to Romelu Lukaku. Not only that, The Toffees have successfully benefited from selling players to other clubs, especially clubs from outside the English league. Who are they?
1. Idrissa Gueye
Idrissa Gueye is one of the most expensive players ever sold by Everton. The Senegalese passport player was sold to a wealthy French club, Paris Saint-Germain, in the summer of 2019. Through the sale of Gueye, The Toffees received a disbursement of 30 million euros.
On the other hand, his move to Paris was a significant career advancement. Gueye is one of Le Parisiens ‘ favorite midfielders, who has made 109 appearances in all competitions so far. His journey with PSG is also equipped with a number of prestigious titles.
2. Nikola Vlasic
One strip below Gueye, there is the name Nikola Vlasic. The 24-year-old player was successfully sold by Everton at a high cost to Russian club CSKA Moscow, which was 23 million euros
At first, Vlasic arrived to the Russian capital club on a season-long loan.
His performance in CSKA’s midfield has grown rapidly. He was then made permanent and impressed during his two seasons in the Iron Curtain with a record of 33 goals and 21 assists. Thanks to his slick appearance, Vlasic was brought in by a club like West Ham United at the beginning of the 2021/2022 season.
3. Ademola Lookman
Ademola Lookman is projected as one of RB Leipzig’s valuable young assets. How could he not, he was recruited at a fairly high cost, namely 18 million euros
from Everton. Lookman joined the prospective players in Die Roten Bullen ‘s squad at the time.
Despite this great opportunity, Lookman’s journey with Leipzig did not go smoothly. He failed to shine and was only trusted to appear 24 times. Lookman only lasted half a season in Germany and was immediately loaned out twice in a row to Fulham and Leicester City.
4. Davy Klaassen
Davy Klaassen did not have a long career with Everton. He only lasted one season and was immediately released to Werder Bremen. His move to the Bundesliga club was realized at the start of the 2018/2019 season and cost him 13.5 million euros
With his new club, Klaassen performed quite well by collecting 81 appearances in all competitions. After two seasons traveling in Germany, Klaassen was eyed by his boyhood club, Ajax Amsterdam. In the end, the 29-year-old player decided to return to the club nicknamed de Amsterdammers.
5. Henry Onyekuru
Completing the top five positions, Nigerian national Henry Onyekuru is filled. He is one of the most expensive players ever sold by Everton to a club outside the Premier League. This was marked by his move to AS Monaco which cost up to 13.5 million euros
Status as one of the club’s most expensive recruits is not a guarantee for him. Onyekuru actually had difficulty competing on the front lines of his new team. Not surprisingly, he only lasted half a season with a record of eight appearances. After that, Onyekuru was loaned to Galatasaray.
Although not included in the favorite team to win in the Premier League, Everton remains a storehouse of quality players. Several names were also successfully sold by The Toffees, as they did with the transfer of the five players above.
