Merger with Discovery, Warner Bros. Will Revamp DC Movies

Most of you must know that the DC film universe is owned by Warner Bros. Well, on April 8, 2022, the main company Warner Bros., namely WarnerMedia officially merged with Discovery. The merging of the two media giants created a new company name, namely Warner Bros. Discovery.

After the merger, Warner Bros. Discovery doesn’t seem willing to linger on the future of the DC film universe. According to Variety, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, namely David Zaslav, has come up with the idea of turning DC into more solid content. This step will certainly affect the development of DC films, DC series, and DC’s creative power that is considered appropriate.

Even before the merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery was completed, Zaslav had screened candidates with experience in creating and maintaining DC intellectual property. You could say Zaslav is looking for someone like Kevin Feige who is the president of Marvel Studios. This figure will later become the creative leader and strategy for DC harmony.

Even though there are quite a number of DC films that have had great success, such as Aquaman (2018) and The Batman (2022), Discovery considers that the DC film universe does not have an interconnected creative strategy. Discovery also believes that Superman has been left to languish all along and they want to bring Superman back to life.

The success of the solo film Joker (2019) also makes Discovery believe that the second-rate characters from the DC gallery also have the potential to continue to be developed. As early as 2022, DC began using ways to link films to series, such as The Suicide Squad (2021) and Peacemaker. However, Warner Bros. Discovery believes that DC should do more to improve its approach to comics, including strengthening the game.
