For those of you who have followed the MCU from the start, you may already be familiar with the figure of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Yep, the character played by William Hurt has indeed appeared in various Marvel films, including The Incredible Hulk (2008) which became his debut as the character. Unfortunately, not long ago it was circulated sad news from the actor.
Launching Deadline, William Hurt reportedly died at the age of 71 years on March 13, 2022, just one week before his birthday. This was expressed by his son. Hurt died after suffering from prostate cancer since 2018 which reportedly has spread to his bones.
William Hurt’s career as an actor began in 1977 when he was involved as one of the players in the series The Best of Families. After that, Hurt began to star in various films or other Hollywood series. His career as an actor was also very bright, because Hurt received four Oscar nominations, and managed to win one of them thanks to the film Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985).
However, those of you who watched Marvel movies will know him much better as Thaddeus Ross, who debuted as a general of the special military forces as well as the father of his lover Bruce Banner aka the Hulk. After that, Hurt briefly appeared again in Captain America: Civil War (2016) to submit the Sokovia Accords proposal to the Avengers.
As of this writing, William Hurt’s last appearance as Thaddeus Ross in the MCU was in the film Black Widow (2021) which is set after Civil War. Even so, there were rumors that Hurt would return as Ross in the upcoming She-Hulk series. The filming process for the She-Hulk series was also completed in 2021, so it will most likely be Hurt’s last appearance in his career.
