Love & Thunder Will Introduce Thor’s Superhero Team?
Over the years, Thor has been one of the most important pillars of Marvel, both in Marvel Comics and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a superhero who made his debut in Marvel Comics in the 60s, Thor Odinson only had the opportunity to become part of the MCU in the fourth year of the founding of the cinematic universe through the movie Thor (2011). And now, Thor is the first MCU character to get his fourth solo movie, Thor: Love and Thunder .
The movie, directed by Taika Waititi, will tell the story of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) who wants to retire, but is interrupted by the appearance of supervillain Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) who desperately wants to eradicate the gods in the MCU. For that, Thor has no other choice but to ask for help from his old friends, such as Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) who has become the king of New Asgard, his old friend named Korg (Waititi), and also his ex-lover named Jane Foster (Natalie). Portman), where this time he appears as Mighty Thor.
In addition to successfully surprising Thor and the fans, with his action when summoning and using Mjolnir in the Love and Thunder trailer aka Thor 4, there is a possibility that he will also mark the emergence of a new super team in the MCU. If Thor Odinson is known as the founder of the Avengers, maybe Mighty Thor will set up another super team that is no less great. And that super team is the ‘Thor Corps’ which was first described in Tom DeFalco and Pat Olliffe’s Mighty Thor #440 (1991) comic, where Thor incarnations from various timelines are told to work together.
The story of the Thor Corps super-variant team was then further refined in the events of Secret Wars (2015), precisely when God Emperor Doom was told to become the ruler of the multiverse after gaining the power of Molecule Man. To exercise his power, Doom then founded a new Thor Corps consisting of Thor variants in the multiverse, each of which has its own Mjolnir. The members of this super-variant team include Beta Ray Bill, Brunnhilde, Eric Masterson, Thor Odinson, Jane Foster, and other Thors.
In Thor Corps, which re-appears in the Secret Wars story , Jane alias Mighty Thor is one of its members who is quite influential and has more achievements in securing the multiverse than other Thors. Based on the Marvel Comics story, it is not impossible that Jane Foster aka Mighty Thor, played by Portman, will be the initial foundation for the emergence of Thor Corps, where perhaps towards the end of the Thor 4 movie she will establish the super-variant team with the main Thor Odinson, played by Chris. Hemsworth.
Just like in the early story of Thor Corps, where they banded together to defeat the time traveler villain named Tomorrow Man, perhaps in Thor 4 later a similar goal will be the trigger for the formation of Thor Corps. Gorr the God Butcher himself is a supervillain from Marvel Comics, who is said to really want to eradicate all the gods that exist in all timelines. That means the presence of Mighty Thor and Gorr could be the right reason for Marvel to introduce Thor Corps in the MCU.
In the first trailer for Thor 4 aka Love and Thunder which was released a few days ago, there is even a figure of ‘Pirate Thor’ who is believed to be a variant. Maybe he’ll also be a part of the Thor Corps alongside Mighty Thor and Thor Odinson. In addition, the presence of Thor Corps in the MCU can also be the initial foundation of the MCU Secret Wars story that has been rumored for a long time . Let’s find out later, geeks, when Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on July 8, 2022.
