Liverpool seems reluctant to play casually in the semifinals of the Champions League 2nd leg. Facing Villarreal at El Madrigal, Wednesday morning WIB (4/5/2022), Liverpool will certainly appear with a scheme full of energy.
Liverpool manager, Juergen Klopp, said his team will appear pressing. Klopp made sure the Reds played like in the 1st leg, when not giving Villarreal breath to develop.
“The semi-finals of the Champions League are definitely not easy. You never know when you will be in the final again, maybe you will never get it next time. So, it’s better to be alert and prepare yourself,” Klopp was quoted as saying by UEFA’s official website.
1. Predict the situation differently
Klopp predicts Villarreal coach Unai Emery will play a different scheme. There is potential for Emery to make adjustments to be able to beat Liverpool back.
2. Beware of Villarreal’s positive trend
Klopp’s concerns are true. Because, Villarreal is currently experiencing a positive trend when playing at home.
The Yellow Submarine are unbeaten while playing at El Madrigal for 13 matches in all competitions. Villarreal’s last defeat at El Madrigal came on December 28, 2021, against Barcelona, 1-3.
“Indeed, starting the game from 0-2 down is so complex. However, we are in the best form when playing at home. We will create situations in the match that allow for an equalizer first,” said Emery.
3. Villarreal have a tough task
Villarreal practically had to win by a score of 3-0 in order to qualify for the final. Winning with a score of 3-1, the match still had to proceed to extra time. Because, currently the away goals rule has been revoked.
“We feel we have benefited from the removal of away goals. Actually, in the 1st leg, Liverpool benefited from the home factor. We can overcome this by defending and giving them space,” Emery explained.
