Lionel Messi Wins 7th Ballon d’Or

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi has won the 2021 Ballon d’Or title. This is Messi’s seventh Ballon d’Or in his professional career.

Messi beat his two closest competitors, Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho, with a collection of 613 points. This time, Messi is 33 points ahead of Lewandowski. So the Evening Standard reports .

Jorginho’s prediction to win was wrong : Jorginho who filled the third position only collected 460 points. Meanwhile, Karim Benzema is in fourth position. Chelsea midfielder and the French national team, N’Golo Kante, was ranked fourth.

What Jorginho received was quite surprising. Because, he was predicted to win the Ballon d’Or after leading Chelsea to win the Champions League and Italy triumph in the 2020 European Cup. However, Jorginho only finished in third position with a collection of 460 points.

Ronaldo’s irony : Messi’s main rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, is only in sixth place. Ronaldo only collected 178 points. He is ahead of Mohamed Salah, 121 points.

So it’s an irony for Ronaldo because this is one of the lowest scores in the Ballon d’Or race.

Messi: from El Pichichi to Copa America : Messi won his seventh Ballon d’Or after being the inspiration for Argentina to win the 2021 Copa America. He also came out as the top scorer with four goals he scored.

Not only that, Messi was able to provide five assists in the event. In 2021, Messi also managed to make his name as El Pichichi LaLiga, with a collection of 30 goals.

It was Messi’s seventh El Pichichi title in his LaLiga career. La Pulga also confirmed themselves as the player who won the most El Pichichi.

Messi Admits Lewandowski’s Greatness

Paris Saint-Germain superstar, Lionel Messi, opened his voice after lifting the 2021 Ballon d’Or trophy. Messi admitted that he was lucky enough to win it because there was Robert Lewandowski who deserved it more.

“Robert, everyone knows and agrees that you deserve to win it. Last year, everyone agreed that you deserved to win the Ballon d’Or,” Messi told Lewandowski quoted by the Daily Mirror.

Lewandowski satisfied : Not winning the Ballon d’Or, but Lewandowski only managed to win the status as the best striker. The score of 64 goals from 54 matches throughout 2021, makes Lewandowski worthy of winning the award.

Lewandowski is indeed the most fertile than other players in 2021. In fact, Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi lost to Lewandowski.

“So my dream is to be here, to win awards. Moreover, I am not from a country with a great football history. Now, I am here, winning what I have longed for,” said Lewandowski.

Lewandowski’s achievements : Lewandowski also regretted last year’s Ballon d’Or had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, he was sure he could achieve it.

Throughout 2021, Lewandowski also continued to maintain his impressive performance. In fact, he overtook Bayern legend Gerd Mueller’s record as a scorer of 40 goals in one Bundesliga season.

The controversy over Messi’s victory : Messi’s victory in the Ballon d’Or is indeed the subject of discussion in cyberspace. The public feels that Messi doesn’t deserve to win it, even though Argentina has won the 2021 Copa America.

To the public, Lewandowski is worthy. Norwegian football legend, Jan Aage Fjortoft, even called the Ballon d’Or this time politically charged. Former England bomber Gary Lineker also agreed that Lewandowski should have won.
