‘Sonic The Hedgehog 2 & Morbius‘- It was a healthy weekend at the box office, as cinemas saw three new releases. It was Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Ambulance and Everything Everywhere in the United States.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 quickly took the box office lead, predicting the film’s earnings to rise from the previous $67 million.
April has been the busiest month for films so far, 2022. Director Jeff Fowler’s Sonic The Hedgehog 2 surprisingly took the top spot this weekend with an estimated gross of $67-69 million. This prediction comes after the film grossed $6.5 million in preview at its opening on Friday, April 8, 2022.
The result is a big jump from the earlier estimate of the film weekend, which was previously $50-60 million. When compared to the previous Sonic The Hedgehog which made $58 million or 833 billion in its opening weekend. This figure is almost a $10 million jump with a sequel.
Current forecasts are also impressive as they would put the film on par with the first film’s four-day holiday opening. The current opening prediction is $70 million.
This is what happens when you have a successful first film, good word of mouth reviews, and a killer marketing campaign. Paramount Pictures has achieved success after the film’s return to theaters, with the releases of A Quiet Place Part 2, Scream, Jackass Forever and The Lost City . The studio has proven itself that theatrical models still lead.
In second place this weekend was Sony with Morbius breaking the $10 million mark. The Spider-Verse film is in its second weekend of release and this number sees it down 74% between weekends.
