The two rookie Tech3 KTM riders , Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez, have not shown good performance in the 2022 MotoGP . Only Gardner has bagged the points so far. He won one point at the Qatar GP.
Racing in the premier class is not an easy matter. Likewise for the two KTM rookies who had become tough competitors in the 2021 Moto2 class. However, looking at the fourth series at Circuit of The Americas (COTA), United States, the two drivers are sure they can appear competitive.
1. MotoGP is not easy for rookies
MotoGP 2022 has five new riders competing in the premier class. The five riders are Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez (Tech3 KTM), Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46), Darryn Binder (WithU Yamaha RNF) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Gresini Racing).
Three of the five rookies have already pocketed points. They are Marco Bezzecchi (7 points), Darryn Binder (6 points), and Remy Gardner (1 point). Meanwhile, Raul Fernandez and Fabio Di Giannantonio are still biting their fingers.
2. Remy Gardner injury recovery
Moto2 world champion, Remy Gardner, is not fit. He had an accident while practicing motocross 2 weeks before the pre-season test in Sepang, Malaysia. As a result, Gardner suffered a wrist injury that forced him to go up to the operating table.
Injury recovery takes a long time. In fact, after the third round of the Argentine MotoGP, Gardner still felt pain in his hand.
“It still hurts a bit. It takes time to get back on track. However, the conditions are already better than in Qatar,” Gardner was quoted as saying by Crash .
3. Raul Fernandez continues to adapt
Raul Fernandez has not won any points from the three 2022 MotoGP series. The 2021 Moto2 runner-up said that he will continue to learn to ride a MotoGP bike.
Although he has not yet found his best performance, he feels that the Argentine MotoGP is his best moment. The reason is that Fernandez managed to record a consistent time during the race at the Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit than the previous two series.
Today I had a great start to the race, I was able to get out of the first corner well. After that, I saw Miguel Oliviera up front, from him I had to learn how to ride a motorbike, said Fernandez.
4. Remy Gardner doesn’t use injury as an excuse
Remy Gardner wrist injury recovery does take a long time. Although still in pain, he is confident he will be able to speak volumes in the United States.
Last year, I had a good pace in Moto2. We’ll see what I can do with a MotoGP bike, Gardner said .
5. Raul Fernandez is confident about the American MotoGP
Among the rookie drivers , Raul Fernandez is a figure who is believed to be consistently gaining points. Because, he has had a slick performance since his debut in the Moto2 class.
Fernandez has a good record at COTA. Last season, he emerged as the first champion in the Moto2 class. That slick performance is the main capital. It is not impossible for Fernandez to make the American GP a momentum to gain the first points in the premier class.
The fourth MotoGP series at COTA, United States, will be held on April 8-10, 2022. The 5,513 km long track has a unique, challenging and demanding character for drivers, including rookies .
