Including Solskjaer, These 7 Legendary Players Kicked Out When Coaching Former Clubs

However, this status does not necessarily make Solskjaer immune from dismissal when sitting in the MU manager chair.

The man from Norway is a former Manchester United striker. With the Red Devils Team from 1996 to 2007, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored 126 goals in 366 matches in all competitions.

He also helped Manchester United win 12 trophies, some of which were six Premier League titles, and one Champions League and Intercontinental Cup.

However, the 48-year-old man has just been sacked by Manchester United’s management. Solskjaer lost his job after Manchester United lost 1-4 to bottom side Watford.

The defeat made Manchester United thrown into eighth position in the Premier League standings with a value of 17. MU is six points behind West Ham United who are entrenched in fourth.

Apart from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer , there are still many coaches who have been sacked despite their status as club legends. Anyone? Here are seven legends who were sacked as coaches for their former clubs.

Clarence Seedorf
Clarence Seedorf had a very brilliant career while playing for AC Milan. He won two Serie A and two Champions Leagues during 10 seasons with the Rossoneri.

Seedorf was appointed Milan coach in early 2014 to replace the sacked Massimiliano Allegri. However, his career as coach of the Rossoneri did not last long.

Seedorf’s tenure as Milan coach lasted only four months. Because Milan failed to qualify for Europe, he lost his position.

Filippo Inzaghi
Filippo Inzaghi was the man who replaced Clarence Seedorf at AC Milan. Inzaghi was previously one of the best strikers the Rossoneri have ever had.

As a player, Inzaghi won many titles while wearing the Milan jersey. However, his career as a Rossoneri coach was not as shiny as it was when he was a player.

Under Inzaghi’s tutelage, the Rossoneri were only able to finish in 10th place in the 2014/2015 Serie A event. That’s what got him fired at the end of the season.

Andrea Pirlo
Andrea Pirlo was appointed Juventus coach last season. It was Pirlo’s first experience in coaching.

Pirlo’s achievements with Juventus are actually not that bad. He was noted to be able to present two trophies namely the Italian Super Cup and Coppa Italia titles.

However, it was deemed not enough because Juventus failed miserably in Serie A and the Champions League. Pirlo was finally sacked by Juventus at the end of the season.

Frank Lampard
Frank Lampard is a Chelsea legend. He played for the Blues for 13 years and won 13 titles including three Premier Leagues and one Champions League.

After managing Derby County, Lampard had the opportunity to coach Chelsea in 2019. In his first season, the Blues were able to finish in the top four in the Premier League.

However, Chelsea stumbled in Lampard’s second season at Stamford Bridge. Lampard was finally sacked in the middle of the season and his position was replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

Ronald Koeman
Ronald Koeman played under Johan Cruyff at Barcelona. He is known as the scorer of El Barca’s winning goal in the European Cup final against Sampdoria at Wembley in 1992.

Koeman returned to Camp Nou as Barcelona tactician in 2020. Although Barcelona’s performances were nothing special, he managed to win the Copa del Rey in his first season.

However, Koeman failed to boost Barcelona’s performance this season. As a result, the man from the Netherlands had to leave the club sooner.

Kenny Dalglish
Kenny Dalglish is one of the great legends who ever played at Liverpool. He was recorded to have handled the Reds twice.

In his first period, Dalglish was able to present many titles for Liverpool. That included three First Division titles in the 1980s.

But during his second spell at Anfield, King Kenny failed to repeat his glory. He was sacked after Liverpool were only able to finish in eighth place in the 2011/12 season.
