How to Watch Naruto Sequentially: Complete Watching Guide


Nobody should feel like saying “there isn’t enough Naruto” or that “the series ended too soon.” In addition to all of its filler, the series has all kinds of movies, OVAs, and other material devoted to it. As of Boruto, the series is still ongoing today. There’s a lot to go through, so here’s a collection of titles and dates to help, as well as recommended viewing orders.

A few things should be remembered about everything collected here. While not all of them fit neatly into the Naruto timeline, as much as possible will. As such, the recommended viewing order for some of these items will be a mix of their chronological points in Naruto history and the order of the official release dates. For the sake of completeness, Boruto related properties will also be included. However, NARUTO Spin-Off: Rock Lee & His Ninja Pals will be excluded because it doesn’t fit into the Naruto continuity at all. Video-game related material will also be kept to a minimum; the goal is to categorize animated works. A release date will be given based on when a work debuts in Japan. Keeping these rules in mind, this is the best method to watch all of Naruto.

Naruto Series in Release Oder

Starting off simple, here’s each series with the Naruto name. The original Naruto anime aired from October 3, 2002 to February 8, 2007. It ran for a total of 220 episodes.

After the passage of time, Part II of the story, Naruto: Shippuden, begins. Its first episode aired on February 15, 2007; this sounds like it started immediately after Naruto, but fans should remember that there’s at least two years of non-canon material between the two (funny thing, it’s the exact amount of time between Parts I and II). The series ended on March 23, 2017, with a total of 500 episodes. This marks the end of Naruto’s adventures.

The story of Naruto being replaced by his son in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. The series began on April 5, 2017; it has 242 episodes to its name and counting. The series is ongoing, so it should be one of the last things to watch.

Naruto Movies in Order of Release

One would think Naruto movies could be divided based on which series was showing at the time, but this gets tricky. Fortunately, the first three Naruto films are easy to track down. Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow premiered on August 21, 2004. . Naruto the Movie: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom premiered on August 5 , 2006. The trend of new Naruto films that premiere every year in late summer will carry over into the Shippuden films.

These are all films that take place during the events of Shippūden. The first Naruto: Shippden film, simply titled Naruto Shippden the Movie, premiered on August 4, 2007. Naruto Shippden the Movie: Bonds premiered on August 2, 2008. Naruto Shippden the Movie: The Will of Fire premiered on August 1, 2009. Naruto Shippūden the Movie: The Lost Tower premiered on July 31, 2010. Naruto the Movie: Blood Prison premiered on July 30, 2011. Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie premiered on July 28, 2012.

It premiered in theaters on December 6, 2014. Unlike other Naruto films, this one was made to coincide with the events of the manga, which had just finished at the time.

The next Naruto film saw the debut of his son, Boruto, as the main character. Boruto: Naruto the Movie premiered on August 7, 2015. Naruto: Shippūden was still airing at the time, although what would become the “Sarada Uchiha Arc” of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations had just finished.
