Gotham City heroes can save cinema from further downturn
Premiering last Thursday in the United States, ‘The Batman’ opened with impressive results of around 21.6 million US dollars.
Warner’s latest film, ‘The Batman’, made by Matt Reeves this time managed to make around 21.6 million US dollars in preview screenings on Thursday night, in the United States. The Gotham City hero reboot is expected to bring in a debut income of $100 million or more.
These results are considered satisfactory because they can compete with Warner Bros. films. previously, such as ‘The Dark Knight’ (18.5 million US dollars), ‘Justice League’ (13 million US dollars), and ‘Wonder Woman’ (11 million US dollars). However, it’s still slightly lower than ‘Batman vs Superman’ (27.7 million US dollars) and Dark Knight Rises (30.6 million US dollars).
With good reviews and perfect acting Robert Pattinson. It is not impossible that ‘The Batman’ will achieve even more impressive results after that. The former ‘Twilight’ actor has successfully played Batman and his alter ego, Bruce Wayne. Pattinson joins a long list of actors who have portrayed Batman, including Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, Val Kilmer and, famously, George Clooney.
‘The Batman’ is a big bet for Warner Bros. with his DC Films. All the chaos and decay of Gotham City doesn’t come cheap. The production process costs about 200 million US dollars which is quite large, not including the values expended for marketing and distribution costs. However, some critics believe that ‘The Batman’ has a chance to earn at least $140 million in its first three days of release.
If that were to happen, ‘The Batman’ would be the second film since the pandemic to reach the $100 million mark in one weekend, after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ released last December.
As a warning, ‘The Batman’ is not a typical hero movie filled with excitement or fun. Even so, the film ‘The Batman’ this time was very slick in presenting the character of the hero of Gotham City through stories, cinematography, and social criticism that was able to make the audience amazed and applauded.
Besides Pattinson, ‘The Batman’ also stars Paul Dano as the Riddler, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Batman’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell, known as Penguin.
Currently, ‘The Batman’ is still present in the audience’s favorite cinemas.
