De Jong considers Barcelona’s performance to have improved when they beat Mallorca compared to before.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong admits he is frustrated that the 2021/22 La Liga season has ended prematurely after Real Madrid were confirmed as champions at the weekend.

Madrid won this season by thrashing Espanyol 4-0 when La Liga had four games remaining. The incision also makes the competition between Madrid and Barcelona different from previous seasons.

This season, Madrid emerged as champions with 81 points. They are far ahead of Barcelona who collected 66 points. Situations like this are rare between the two teams.

When asked about his feelings watching the league season end prematurely, De Jong answered diplomatically. However, he admits Barcelona’s performance made him feel frustrated. The Dutch player hopes that the Blaugrana’s appearance will change in the coming season.

“We are in second place now. The first target is to qualify for the Champions League, and then look to the Super Cup. Very [making] frustrating. We haven’t played well this season. But I hope we continue to improve, and next season will be different,” De Jong said .

De Jong added that Barcelona’s performance had improved when they beat Mallorca 2-1 compared to before. According to him, Mallorca is not an easy team to beat.

“I think we [played] better than them. We deserved this win, because they are an opponent who can hold off their opponents. We are happy with this victory,” said De Jong.

“I think we played well. We’ve had a big improvement over some of the other games. We are quite happy with that.”

De Jong stated that Xavi’s role as a coach was very big in developing his abilities. He has spoken to Xavi several times about his performances on the pitch.

“The conversation was very good. I have confidence, and the coach has said he has confidence in me too. Everyone is happy,” added De Jong.
