1. Story source

The plot of Stand by Me Doraemon 2 takes inspiration from several Doraemon stories. Starting from Grandma’s Memories, the short film Doraemon: A Grandmother’s Recollections (2000) , and also The Day When I Was Born (2012). Grandma’s Memories is the 70th chapter and the last chapter of the 4th volume of the Doraemon manga which is about Nobita’s journey to the past to see his grandmother firsthand.

2. Release has been delayed

Stand by Me Doraemon 2 had a delayed release. Initially, the film was slated for release in Japan on August 8, 2020, but was canceled due to the release of another Doraemon animated film, Doraemon: Nobita’s New Dinosaur , which was supposed to be released in March 2020.

In addition, the postponement of the release was also due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which at that time made the condition of the film industry uncertain. It was only after the release of the second trailer for the film, that a new release date for Stand by Me Doraemon 2 was revealed, which is November 20, 2020. Apart from being in theaters, this film will also air through the Netflix streaming service starting in December 2021.
