3. Continuation of the previous adventure

Stand By Me Doraemon 2 is a continuation story of the adventures of Nobita and Doraemon in the first film which was released in 2014. The film opens with the scene of Nobita finding an old doll from his grandmother.

Feeling homesick for his grandmother, Nobita asks Doraemon to help him travel through time in order to find the middle-aged woman. However, when it comes to the past, the grandmother expresses an unexpected desire, which is to see Nobita’s future wife.

4. The quest for adult Nobita

At the request of the grandmother, Doraemon and Nobita went back to time travel. They stopped into the future, namely when Nobita and Shizuka got married.

Successfully attending his own future wedding ceremony, the adult Nobita who was supposed to be there with Shizuka disappeared instead. In the end, little Nobita and Doraemon must find the whereabouts of adult Nobita.

5. Tucked away mental health issues

Doraemon lovers must have known that there is always a moral message tucked away in every story, including the film version. Stand by Me 2 has a storyline that is relevant to today’s life. The story inserts the issue of mental health.

This can be seen from the problems experienced by Nobita adults. Nobita experiences panic attacks and worries so he chooses to run away before the wedding ceremony. Nobita’s escape is based on feelings of fear because he thinks he can’t make Shizuka happy. Nobita’s feelings of fear and anxiety are also often experienced by young people today in dealing with various aspects.

6. The voice actor is the same as the previous film

The voice actor from the film Stand by Me Doraemon is also back in the sequel. They include Wasabi Mizuta as Doraemon, Megumo Ohara as Nobi Nobita, and Satoshi Tsumabuki as adult Nobita. Then, there is also Yumi Kakazu as Shizuka Minamoto, Tomokazu Seki as Suneo, Subaru Kimura as Takeshi “Giant” Goda, and Kotono Mitsuishi as Nobita’s mother.

7. Become the sixth highest grossing animated film of 2020

Even though it was released during a pandemic, the film Stand by Me Doraemon 2 managed to make a profit of 3.7 million dollars (around Rp. 54 billion) in its first week. In fact, with a total income of 65.2 million dollars (around Rp.952 billion), Stand by Me 2 became the sixth highest-grossing animated film in the world in 2020.
