Gareth Southgate has announced the names of players called up to the England national team to face international trials next week. Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford was not included in the squad list.
International week starts early next week. The England national team , which has been confirmed to feature in the 2022 World Cup, has scheduled two test matches to be held on Sunday (27/3/2022) and Wednesday (30/3/2022).
Both matches will be held at England’s legendary stadium, Wembley Stadium. Switzerland became the Three Lions’ first opponents in this series of trials, followed by Ivory Coast a few days later.
Gareth Southgate announced the England squad for the two test matches. A total of 25 players were called up, most of whom played in the Premier League.
Two of England’s top clubs, Arsenal and Manchester City, contributed the most players in the squad. There are four names entered into the Three Lions for these two test matches.
Arsenal goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, has the opportunity to strengthen the England national team for the second time. The former Sheffield United goalkeeper is indeed stealing the attention with his brilliant performances in goal.
Apart from Ramsdale, Arsenal also donated Ben White, Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe. While from Manchester City there are John Stones, Raheem Sterling, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden. Here’s the full squad.
Striking Change | When compared to the squad for Euro 2020, the England national team made some pretty striking changes. Two Manchester United players were not called up for this international week, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.
The absence of the name Rashford is not a surprise. Lately, its performance has not been so satisfying for many people. The absence of Jadon Sancho is quite surprising, because his appearance is quite slick on several occasions.
The goalkeeper position is likely to remain with Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. However, there is a possibility of stiff competition for this position, because Ramsdale’s performance at Arsenal cannot be underestimated.
