It’s no secret that Ducati will return to oversee eight riders in MotoGP 2022, the last time this happened in 2018. The General Manager of Ducati Corse, Gigi Dall’Igna, promised to provide equal support.
However, from a total of eight riders, he admitted that he would worry about Francesco Bagnaia if the 24-year-old rider returned to appear fierce at the beginning of the year.
Ducati did field eight riders, but their number dwindled to six when the Aspar Team withdrew from the 2019 MotoGP. Next year, Gresini Racing split from Aprilia Racing’s structure and thought about becoming their satellite team.
However, technical support and an inappropriate budget made Gresini turn to Ducati. Despite sharp criticism from many parties, Ducati still accepts Gresini with open arms.
According to Dall’Igna, managing four teams and eight riders is not difficult because he is quite experienced. In addition, the more drivers, the more valuable information to develop the Desmosedici.
“Doing it is not difficult. It takes a big organization, but Ducati has it. We have already fielded eight bikes, and this does not scare us. After all, the economic factor is not the target we set in racing,” said Dall’Igna in an interview with GPOne on Friday (17/12/2021).
“The positive aspect, we can get more information in the race week and the process of developing the bike. We can also help the riders to develop.”
“Next year we have two promising young riders (Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio di Giannantonio), who will start their adventure with Ducati.”
Pecco Champion Candidate
Eight Ducati riders in 2022 are also not easy riders. All of them have participated in fighting for the title in Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP.
But it’s no secret that at the end of 2021, Pecco Bagnaia is the rider with the most striking performance. However, Dall’Igna insists he will not spearhead Ducati.
“Honestly, we don’t focus on anyone. We don’t give one rider something that is better than another. We have the power to give the same chance,” said Dall’Igna.
But we did not start the season with this kind of mind,” he added.
It’s Natural If Pecco Bagnaia Becomes The Golden Child
Even so, if at the beginning of the 2022 MotoGP, Bagnaia was immediately fierce and returned to fight for the title like this season, Dall’Igna did not deny that Valentino Rossi’s protege would be privileged.
As is known, it is natural for manufacturers to provide better technical support to their riders who are champion candidates.
If he starts next season like this too, we will obviously give him special attention,” said Dall’Igna.
