To Empire, Denis Villeneuve tells the point of view that he wants to show in Dune: Part 2. In the first part, the audience is presented with the focus of the story on the Atreides family and the Bene Gesserit organization. So that in the second film, the director’s attention will shift to the evil Harkonnen family.
Dune’s first film was an adaptation of half of Frank Herbert’s first novel. Denis Villeneuve acknowledged that the decision to split two films from one book was a tough decision considering the possibility of a sequel depending on box office revenue. Dune was lucky his first film sold well.

“When adapting, you have to make bold choices to bring the story to life,” he said in the interview. “I think this (split the film) is the best way to introduce this world to a wider audience,” he continued.
In the process of making the second film, Denis Villeneuve admits that he has more leeway in providing details. He also mentioned that there will be many deep and important things that will be presented in Dune: Part 2.
One of them by introducing new characters. He refrained from revealing all the characters in the book in the first film so that audiences could focus on Paul Atreides and Bene Gesserit.
“Several new characters will be introduced in the second part and this is a decision I made at the beginning of the project because the first film was about Paul Atreides and Bene Gesserit, and also their experience of contacting a different culture for the first time.
The second part will be more about the Harkonnen ,” continued Denis Villeneuve.
Dune’s first film was a success with a total revenue of US $ 399.4 million. It didn’t take long for Warner Bros. to give the green light for the production of a second film.
