Tragedy is hitting the world of Hollywood cinema. Actor Alec Baldwin reportedly accidentally killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza on the set of Rust .

The property gun fired by the veteran actor was the trigger. This is the chronology of the shooting accident.

 

 

1. Alec Baldwin fires a prop gun on the set of Rust on Thursday (10/21/2021)
This accident occurred when Alec Baldwin fired a property gun on the set of the film Rust in New Mexico on Thursday (10/22/2021) local time or Friday (10/23/2021) WIB. Unexpectedly, the gun killed a cinematographer and injured a director.

According to The Guardian, the authorities visited Bonanza Creek Ranch at around 2 pm based on a 911 call. The sheriff said two people were shot, namely the director of photography, Halyna Hutchins (42) and director Joel Souza (48).

2. The incident killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza
Halyna Hutchins was immediately taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital by helicopter. Unfortunately, when he got there he was declared dead by the medics. Director Joel Souza himself was escorted by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical center and is currently undergoing treatment for his injury.

The investigation into this accident is open and ongoing although no charges have been filed regarding the incident. Juan Rios as a spokesman for the New Mexico Sheriff said that Alec Balwin came voluntarily to testify to investigators and after that he left.

 

3. Investigation opens, Alec Baldwin testifies voluntarily to the New Mexico Sheriff
According to spokesman Alec Baldwin, the accident was caused by the property’s pistol containing an empty bullet that went wrong. According to local media, Santa Fe New Mexican, Alec Baldwin was seen crying outside the New Mexico Sheriff’s office, but could not be reached for comment.

Information from investigators said that the recorded scene appeared to be using a property weapon when it exploded. The detectives are investigating how and what kind of projectile exploded.

 

4. Filming of Rust has been stopped
Following this accident, the shooting of the film Rust was suspended. Filming will resume in November 2021 based on news from the New Mexico Film Office.

Alec Baldwin is an actor and producer for the film Rust. This film tells the story of a 13-year-old boy who must protect himself and his younger brother alone after the deaths of their parents in 1880 in Kansas. Alec Baldwin plays the two boys’ grandfather.

 

5. Condolences from Hollywood filmmakers
Halyna Hutchins is the director of photography for the film Archenemy (2020) starring Joe Manganiello. The late is an alumnus of the American Film Institute who received the title of “rising star” from the American Cinematographer in 2019.

The departure of the filmmaker left a feeling of sadness in a number of Hollywood filmmakers. Director Adam Egypt Mortimer and James Cullen Bressack shared their condolences via social media.

Earlier in 1993, Bruce Lee’s son Brandon Lee died while filming The Crow . Brandon died as a result of being shot by a property gun. Hopefully a tragedy like this will not happen again.
