The 2022 Oscars which took place in California, Los Angeles on Sunday (27/3) local time, are still warm in memory. One of the movies that has become a topic of discussion is GI Jane , when Chris Rock mentioned the movie when he read out the Oscar winners for the documentary and feature categories . So, what is the movie like?
Still remember clearly how Will Smith shocked the world by hitting comedian Chris Rock in the face on the Oscar stage. The sudden incident happened after Chris made a joke about bald head Jada Pinkett Smith.
Chris said, “Jada can’t wait for GI Jane 2.” That comment made Will storm the stage and hit the Oscar presenter.
Will who later won the trophy for Best Actor, returned to his seat and shouted, “Keep my wife name out of your mouth.”
Jada has previously been open about the decision to shave her head, after suffering from alopecia. But the question is, what does Chris mean by referencing GI Jane ?
This is a 1997 action movie that features Demi Moore in the lead role, Jordan O’Neil. In the movie, she is the first woman to undergo Navy Seal training and even beats many of her male colleagues during that time.
Jordan, to complete his rigorous training and to cement his position as the Seal, shaved his head and became the titular GI Jane. She ended up completely hiding her femininity.
Demi character appearance has Chris cracking jokes about Jada haircut.
GI Jane is a movie starring Demi Moore, Viggo Mortensen and Anne Bancroft, about the process of selecting the secretary of the United States Navy. In the process, Senator Lilian DeHaven (Anne Bancroft) of Texas asked the Navy to be gender neutral by including women.
The proposal was accepted, but on the condition that women outperformed men in a series of tests. Thus, the military will fully integrate women into all lines of the Navy.
Senator Lilian then chooses Lieutenant Jordan O’Neil (Demi Moore) as a candidate in the selection to take various tests. O’Neil also fought tenaciously for the top marks in the selection program, in which nearly sixty percent of candidates were eliminated.
Commander John James (Viggo Mortensen) makes the selection process even more difficult through a number of unreasonable tasks. Week after week the selection feels increasingly heavy.
GI Jane is the work of director Ridley Scott who has directed a number of movies, such as Alien (1979), Blade Runner (1982), Gladiator (2000), Black Hawk Down (2001), The Martian (2015), and many more.
