Causes of Child Bullying at School from a Psychological Side

News

Bullying is a negative action that includes bullying, intimidation, and oppression. For victims, bullying behavior can cause emotional pain and psychological trauma.

Bullying can happen anywhere, from schools, workplaces, to the environment around where you live. Everyone has the potential to bully , but most cases of bullying are done by children.

So, what causes children to do bullying ? Come on, let’s look at the explanation together, from a psychological point of view, the following is so that we can also make prevention efforts as early as possible.

1. Having emotional trauma in the past
A child with emotional trauma in the past has a high potential to become a bully . The reason is, the emotional trauma makes it difficult for a child to project pain in the right way.

As a result, he will try to bully and intimidate others as a form of channeling his pain. This action is clearly wrong and absolutely not justified.

2. Have been a victim of bullying before
Several cases of bullying noted that the perpetrators came from people who had previously been victims of bullying as well. The reason is, they want to take revenge while making other people feel what they feel.

If this is not addressed immediately, it is very likely that the chain of bullying cases will widen to the point that it will take up an increasing number of victims. In fact, there really needs to be cooperation between parents and the school to break the chain of bullying .

3. Feeling insecure about your own weaknesses
The occurrence of bullying can start from a person’s sense of insecurity about the weaknesses they have. He was afraid that he would lose his social status and respect when others found out about his weaknesses.

In the end, he would bully, intimidate, and bully those who had more strengths than him but were physically weak. This despicable act was carried out so that the bully got the highest place in social status.

4. Lack of empathy
Understanding empathy itself is the ability possessed by someone to understand what other people feel, such as sadness, worry, regret, and so on. Anyone who does bullying definitely lacks empathy.

If he has empathy, surely he will not do this despicable act to others. He could definitely understand what it felt like to be hurt and sad when not treated kindly by fellow humans.

5. Lack of social skills
A child is said to have good social skills when he is easy to get along with. Meanwhile, a child whose social skills are assessed as lacking is seen as unable to display interactions with other people.

Therefore, he would do anything to get the attention of others. Unfortunately, he chose the wrong path by committing acts of intimidation and violence.

Even though the perpetrators are still children, bullying cannot be justified and must be addressed immediately so that undesirable things do not happen to the victims and the perpetrators themselves. There needs to be close cooperation between teachers and parents. Child psychologist assistance can also be an option if needed.
