Blackpink sets an unprecedented record in Kpop girl group history


With the album “Born Pink”, Blackpink made history on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Recently, Billboard announced, Blackpink’s second studio album “Born Pink” has debuted at No. 1 on the Top 200 Most Popular Albums chart in the US.

Blackpink made history, becoming the first Korean girl group to top the Billboard 200. Also the first girl group globally to reach No. 1 since 2008 (when “Welcome to the Dollhouse”) ” by Danity Kane debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200).

According to Luminate’s statistics, “Born Pink” has totaled 102,000 album-equivalent units for the week ending September 22.

The total score of the album “Born Pink” includes 75,500 physical album sales (ranked 7th in US albums released in 2022) and 25,000 streaming album units (SEA) – equivalent to 37.49 million streams throughout the week. The remaining 1,500 views of the song equal to the album (TEA) in the first week of its release.

“Born Pink” is Blackpink’s second album to enter the Top 10 of Billboard 200. In 2020, “The Album” landed at No. 2.

Previously, on September 23, the album “Born Pink” climbed to number 1 on the UK Official Albums Chart of the UK (equivalent to the US Billboard).

Thus, “Born Pink” also became the first album by a global girl group and topped the album charts in two of the world’s top music markets, the US and the UK, since 2001.
