Aubameyang sacked as Arsenal captain, who will replace him?
Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta admits that he has yet to decide which player will replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as captain of the Gunners.
The surprise occurred at the Emirates Stadium, Tuesday (14/12/2021). Arsenal have announced that Aubameyang has been removed from his position as club captain.
The removal itself occurred after Arsenal had previously shown a fairly strange behavior. They did not bring the Gabon player when the Gunners met Southampton.
However, he was not injured. It was later discovered that Aubameyang had committed a disciplinary violation.
Arsenal Announcement
Arsenal announced the removal of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as club captain on their official website. The Gunners also emphasized that in the future they hope the players will no longer violate the rules that have been set by the club.
“Based on the disciplinary offense he committed last week, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is no longer captain of this club.”
“We expect all of our players, especially our captain to comply with the rules and standards that we have set and agreed to in advance.” That’s what Arsenal said.
Kata Arteta
Arsenal now have to find a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Mikel Arteta was then asked about this ahead of the match against West Ham.
Arteta said at the moment he had not made any decisions regarding Aubameyang’s replacement. He said he would think about it carefully first.
“I don’t have much more to say. I think that is a very clear statement from the club. This is a decision we made after the last incident we had with a player and this is where we stand.”
“We did it both with the club and face to face with the players. He had to accept that decision. This is a very unpleasant situation.”
“We have a leadership group. In the last game we had Laca. We had Granit who was captain as well. This is not the time to make hasty decisions,” said Arteta.
