5 movies influenced by DUNE

Frank Herbert’s DUNE novels marked a lot of filmmakers and that is why they have used many of its elements.

There are some direct adaptations of DUNE, but it has also served as an influence for many other films. So Frank Herbert’s novels can be considered some of the most influential literary works in the 20th century science fiction genre.

Here are five movies that have been influenced by DUNE.

The Star Wars saga is created by George Lucas and the director has openly acknowledged the influence of DUNE. Both stories share elements such as interstellar travel, political intrigue, and the fight against an evil empire. In addition, the Voice is a power that can directly influence people by giving them orders with a certain sound frequency. Something very similar to the Force from Star Wars. Without forgetting that in both there are sandy planets like Arrakis and Tatooine.

This science fiction film written and directed by the Wachowski sisters shows some influences from DUNE. Both works explore deep philosophical themes, present a dystopian world, and feature a hero chosen to lead a rebellion against an oppressive regime.

Stargate features elements of adventure, politics, and religion in an interplanetary context. In addition, it also takes place on a desert planet.
