There are seven Real Madrid stars who are likely to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in 2023. Even though at the moment Madrid is considered the best club in Europe because it contains great players on all fronts.
Last season, Carlo Ancelotti’s squad won the Spanish League title to the Champions League. This season, Real Madrid is also the favorite because they are in second place in La Liga and are still in the Champions League.
The squad also has an average age of 27.2 years, a good mix of youth and experience. However, the contracts of a number of its star players will expire in 2023.
There has been no talk of an agreement between the stars and the club over a new contract. Even some players are rumored to be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu this year.
Here are seven Real Madrid players who are likely to leave in 2023. They could leave on a free transfer in the summer if their contracts are not renewed.
The 2022 Ballon d’Or holder has actually missed most of this season due to injury and his contract is also ending soon. Karim Benzema had the most productive season of his career last season scoring 44 goals in all competitions.
Fabrizio Romano reported in October last year that the 35-year-old had been offered a one-year contract extension. However, there has been no continuation of that contract and it is likely that Benzema wants to play in the Premier League before hanging up his boots.
The future of the Spanish playmaker is still up in the air as he no longer has a regular place in Madrid. In fact, Asensio has only started twice this season and has been benched more.
“Marco Asensio and Real Madrid have been in conversation for a long time about a new deal,” said transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
“Asensio would be open to moving to the Premier League or other big league experience one day, but the priority right now is still Real Madrid talks.”
3. Tony Kroos
Reports in Spain claim Germany midfielder Toni Kroos will make a final decision on his future in February 2023. Real Madrid have previously made a contract extension offer to the former Bayern Munich midfielder.
The 33-year-old is still an important player for Madrid and has featured in the majority of their games this season.
4. Luka Modric
Croatian player, Luka Modric, is still considered one of the best midfielders in the world despite being 37 years old. He was a star at the 2022 World Cup which led Croatia to third place in Qatar.
Modric reportedly turned down the chance to reunite with former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr. Real Madrid still feels that Modric is an important player even though he currently has young midfielders such as Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde.
The Spanish midfielder has been with Real Madrid since 2017. He has been a regular in the Los Blancos squad during his career at the Santiago Bernabeu.
He spent two years on loan at Arsenal. However, he is now awaiting his future at Real Madrid.
Nacho has won it all with Real Madrid, with three La Liga titles and five Champions League trophies. The 32-year-old has spent his entire career at the Santiago Bernabeu and has made over 280 appearances.
Recent reports claim contract negotiations between player and club have stalled due to no agreement. Fernandez is reportedly interested in moving to England, Italy, and even outside Europe.
7. Mariano Diaz
Diaz has only played a total of 25 minutes in all competitions this season which makes him likely to leave soon. Since returning to Madrid in 2018, he has scored seven goals in 64 appearances.
He did not get enough playing opportunities before Cristiano Ronaldo moved. But with his experience in Madrid, maybe he can find another giant club.
